Apr 16, 2018 at 3:24 PM
Rajasthan Royals (RR) registered the first upset of this edition of the Indian Premier League, as they beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 19 runs while defending the target.
Batting first, Rajasthan banked on Sanju Samson’s unbeaten knock of 92 runs off just 45 deliveries to post a massive target of 217 runs on the board. Ben Stokes (27) and Jos Buttler (23) provided well support to Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, in reply, Bangalore failed to keep up with the required run-rate, as they fell short by 19 runs. Leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal was stunning with the ball, as he returned with two for 22 in his four overs. He bagged the important wickets of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.
Here is the players rating of Rajasthan Royals:
Ajinkya Rahane (c): (6/10)
The skipper provided a flashy start in a batting paradise which laid the platform for the middle-overs. The classical Rahane scored a quickfire 36 runs off just 20 balls including six fours and on six.
D Arcy Short: (3.5/10)
The swashbuckling opener from Australia is yet to strike the right chord in this tournament. Short needs to find his BBL touch bat and contribute to Rajasthan’s success.
Ben Stokes: (5/10)
The all-rounder had an average game against the Challengers. He scored 27 runs from 21 deliveries with the bat. However, he was a bit expensive with the ball.
Stokes needs to bring his A-game in front and help Rajasthan in all the departments.
Sanju Samson: (9/10)
The young batsman from Kerala is having the best time of his career. Samson has been their consistent performer so far in this tournament.
He struck a mind-boggling 92 runs off 45 deliveries to guide the Royals post a massive score on the board.
Jos Buttler (wk): (6/10)
Buttler played his role coming at the fag end of the innings. He contributed with a quickfire 23 runs, as Rajasthan went past 200 runs. With the gloves on, he was good giving away only two extra runs.
Rahul Tripathi: (4.5/10)
Tripathi also played his part at the end, scoring 14 runs off just five deliveries including one four and one. He will look to contribute more in the upcoming fixtures.
Krishnappa Gowtham: (4/10)
Although a bit expensive, Gowtham drew first blood in the Bangalore batting unit, as he removed Brendon McCullum. He gave away 36 runs in his four overs picking only one wicket.
Shreyas Gopal: (8.5/10)
Gopal was absolutely stunning with the ball in today’s game. He contained the run flow against a star-studded batting line-up.
He returned with two for 22 in his four overs picking the all-important wickets of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.
Dhawal Kulkarni: (2/10)
Kulkarni was expensive in today’s game, as he went for 14 runs in his one over. Meanwhile, Rahane didn’t bowl him his full quota as he went for some runs.
Jaydev Unadkat: (5.5/10)
The left-arm pacer was expensive, as he was taken for 35 runs in his three overs.
However, Unadkat needs to find the right form if Rajasthan wants to go further in the league.
Ben Laughlin: (4.5/10)
It was a bad day for the pacers, as it was a run fest in a small ground of Chinnaswamy. Laughlin went for 46 runs in his four overs. However, he needs to improve his performance.
