KL Rahul, Delhi Daredevils IPL 2018
KL Rahul smashes a 14-ball fifty against Delhi Daredevils in Mohali.

KL Rahul scored the fastest half-century in the history of the Indian Premier League when he smashed a 14-ball fifty against the Delhi Daredevils in the 2nd match of the 11th edition of the tournament.

Chasing a competitive total of 167, it was Rahul’s audacious strokeplay which got Punjab off to a sensational start.

He smashed a couple of fours and a six of the first over off Trent Boult and added impetus to the innings with some more lusty blows in the very next over of Mohammed Shami. Rahul reached his half-century in only the 3rd over.

He blasted Amit Mishra all around the park and reached his fifty. The over included three fours and a couple of sixes, as Rahul plundered the Delhi bowlers.

Mayank Agarwal added a six on the very first delivery of the next over. However, he got dismissed on the very next delivery of Chris Morris. KL too failed to add any more runs to his half-century and got dismissed by Trent Boult in the 5th over of the 2nd innings.

Earlier, it was a composed half-century from the Delhi Daredevils skipper Gautam Gambhir which propelled them to a score of 166. Rishabh Pant also struck some lusty blows en route to his knock of 28. He blasted some sixes during his brief stay but couldn’t quite carry on his knock.

Chris Morris and Dan Christian batted sensibly, in the end, to help Delhi recover from a precarious situation and post a decent total on the board.
