ToggleThe 23rd match of the Indian Premier League turned out to be a low-scoring thriller between visitors Sunrisers Hyderabad and hosts Mumbai Indians.
It was the visitors who trumped over the hosts with a 31-run win and got back to their winning ways.
Here is a look at the game-changing moments of the match.
McCleneghan’s early blows
Much had been talked about McClenaghan’s place in the Mumbai Indians’ side this year, as he was unsold in the auctions.
With injuries to Jason Behrendorff and Pat Cummins, McClenaghan was retained by MI, playing ahead of the Australians.
After an expensive start, McClenaghan has clawed his way back to the tournament in the last two outings with important wickets with the new ball.
The Kiwi gave a couple of early blows to the visitors with the wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and Wriddhiman Saha and put the opposition onto the backfoot.
Markande’s spell
Carrying on from excellent work with the ball by Hardik Pandya and McClenaghan. Then, Markande’s spell was the knockout punch for the Susnrisers’ batting efforts.
Also, Markande conceded only 15 runs in his spell at an economy of five rpo and clinched the wickets of Mohammad Nabi and Basil Thampi. Moreover, the Punjab whiz kid continues to bamboozle batsmen with his guile and deception.
SRH losing wickets at regular intervals
The Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen kept losing wickets at regular intervals to put themselves behind in the match.
Also, Visitors SRH could only accumulate 118 before getting bowled out within 19 overs. The dismissal of Manish Pandey and run out of Shakib Al Hasan did not help their cause either.
Besides, Mumbai Indian bowlers bowled well in packs, on conditions difficult for strokeplay.
Siddharth Kaul sensation
Williamson’s side sent the big guns of Mumbai Indians early to maintain the interest in the game. The likes of Evin Lewis, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan fell cheaply.
Additionally, Sunrisers Hyderabad curtailed Krunal Pandya‘s knock and subsequently dismissed Kieron Pollard.
However, the final nail in the coffin was hit by Siddharth Kaul‘s spell in which he conceded just 23 (at 5.75 rpo) and clinched three precious wickets, bowling at the death overs.
Also, he got the prized wicket of Hardik Pandya at the back end, apart from catching Markande and McClenaghan plumb in front.
Suryakumar Yadav’s dismissal
Rookie Basil Thampi, bagged the most crucial wicket of SK Yadav who was looking to keep his cool and finish the game for his side. By taking the game deep in a Dhoniesque fashion.
However, Suryakumar faced too many balls for his knock, where he scored a 38-ball 34, playing into the situation.
Besides, once he got dismissed, it all fell like a pack of cards, as MI were bundled out for 87 and beat them by a considerable margin of 31, in a low scoring game.
