Nov 26, 2018 at 12:19 PM
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) once again defended a low target, as they beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by five runs after posting 146 runs on the board in the game number 39 in Hyderabad.
As a result, they extended their lead at the top of the points table with eight wins from ten games and almost secured a spot in the playoffs of IPL 2018.
Meanwhile, the bowlers once again stepped up to the occasion, as they contained a heavyweight batting-unit. Moreover, Bhuvneshwar Kumar defended 12 runs off the last over after their bowlers did an uphill task.
Colin de Grandhomme (33) and Mandeep Singh (21*) tried their best but fell short by five runs. Virat Kohli (39) also showed some form but failed to complete the task.
However, previously, Hyderabad received three early blows, as they got reduced to 48 for three in the first nine overs. Since then, Kane Williamson (56) and Shakib Al Hasan (35) stitched a beneficial partnership to take his team closer to the 150-run mark.
This loss will certainly take Bangalore on the verge of elimination. However, they will look to shift gears in the next game.
Here is the players ratings:
Alex Hales: (3.5/10)
Hales was undone cheaply by a beauty from Tim Southee in the third over. However, this is his first failure after chipping in with valuable contributions in the previous few games.
The England batsman is a clean striker of the ball and will look to continuing doing so.
Shikhar Dhawan: (4.5/10)
The southpaw took his time to settle in but failed to cash on later. He got out for 13 runs. However, the Hyderabad management will want Dhawan to score runs consistently, as they look to seal a spot in the playoffs.
Kane Williamson (c): (8.5/10)
The skipper has been in outstanding touch leading his pack from the front. He paired with Shakib Al Hasan to take the team out of trouble. Williamson notched up a crucial half-century to help his team close in on the 150-run mark.
Manish Pandey: (3/10)
Manish Pandey‘s inconsistency in the middle-overs has certainly hurt the Hyderabad side. They have struggled after losing few early wickets, and Pandey has failed to prove his worth.
He got cheaply for five runs, and this will keep the Hyderabad dugout in tension.
Shakib Al Hasan: (9/10)
The all-rounder from Bangladesh had an outstanding game with both bat and ball. He shared a crucial partnership with Williamson scoring 35 runs before chipping in with vital two wickets.
Shakib’s form will certainly boost the Sunrisers dugout, and they will hope that he carries this touch.
Yusuf Pathan: (5/10)
Pathan has been in good touch of late; however, he failed to capitalise on the start. He scored 12 runs balls including two boundaries before getting out. The senior pro will look to shoulder extra responsibility in the upcoming games.
Wriddhiman Saha (wk): (4/10)
The wicket-keeper batsman from Bengal has had a horrific time so far with the bat. He has failed to utilise his opportunities with the bat. However, his brilliance behind the stumps has helped him to retain his spot in the playing XI.
Saha will desperately look to put some runs under his belt, as the tournament approaches its business end.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: (7.5/10)
The premier pacer justified his selection right after coming back from injury. He bowled a tight line and length and contained the run flow. Moreover, he defended the target in the last over to hand SRH four wins on a trot.
Kumar went for 27 runs in his full quota claiming the critical wicket of Colin de Grandhomme, who was looking dangerous.
Rashid Khan: (6/10)
The Afghanistan spinner is on a roll for the Sunrisers. He bowled his first three overs cheaply. However, went for runs in the final over. Meanwhile, this won’t disappoint, and he will look to come back hard.
Siddarth Kaul: (8/10)
The bowlers have been doing good for Hyderabad, and Siddarth Kaul is no different. He was spectacular in the middle-overs, as he contained a heavyweight RCB batting. The right-arm pacer returned with one for 25 in his four overs.
Sandeep Sharma: (8/10)
The seamer from Punjab is having a remarkable tournament justifying his selection. He was outstanding with the new ball returning with one for 20 in his four.
His form will certainly boost the SRH camp, and they will want him to carry this form.
