IPL 2018, Match 7, Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians – Match Prediction

We have already witnessed some sensational games in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League.

From the very first match, the tournament already had it’s fair of share of dramas and actions. It was a Dwayne Bravo’s special which prevented the most successful IPL team, Mumbai Indians from starting on a winning note.

Mumbai Indians was in control of proceedings for the majority of the game until a superhuman effort from all-rounder Bravo helped CSK chase the total down. He smashed a brilliant 68 off 30 deliveries which included three fours and seven sixes. Even in the best T20 bowler in the world, Jasprit Bumrah got smashed for three sixes in an over.

Chennai was done and dusted when Bravo produced one of the most spectacular innings in the history of IPL. Despite the loss, Mumbai Indians had a lot of positives to take from the defeat. They were in front in the match for the majority.

Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya batted superbly which helped Mumbai post a competitive 165/4 on the board in 20 overs.

The right-hander scored 43 off 28 deliveries while Krunal smashed 41 of 22 balls. The bowling department looked in complete command until the Bravo blitz. The young leg-spinner, Mayank Markande proved his worth and produced a magical spell of 3/24. It also included the prized wicket of CSK skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

He bowled with guile, and his variations didn’t allow the batsmen to go for the big shots. Mustafizur Rahman also bowled well but went for a few runs during the later stages. Mumbai will be locking horns against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 12th at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The champions from 2015 had a near about perfect start to their campaign.

Sunrisers totally outplayed the Rajasthan Royals in their first game of the tournament. The orange brigade was in full flow and won the encounter by nine wickets and with more than four overs to spare. It was some good tight bowling by Siddharth Kaul and Shakib-Al Hasan which ensured Rajasthan was restricted to a manageable score of 125 in 20 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan batted superbly, and in the company of Kane Williamson, the duo made light work of the Rajasthan bowlers.

Team Combinations

Sunrisers Hyderabad

After their impressive victory, Sunrisers have no reason to change their line-up. However, coach Tom Moody has considered changing a couple of players. English opener Alex Hales was seen batting at the nets under the watchful eyes of Moody. Meanwhile Moody also entrusted Wriddhiman Saha with the job of opening the innings which had been predicted at the start of the tournament.

There are several candidates in the squad. Meanwhile, Moody has always preferred Saha batting up the order. Windies phenomena, Carlos Brathwaite and Mohammed Nabi, are also in the wings and would be eager to break into the playing XI.

Predicted XI:  Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson (c), Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Yusuf Pathan, Shakib al Hasan, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Billy Stanlake, Siddarth Kaul

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai has been pegged with the injury suffered to Australian paceman Pat Cummins. He sat out of the opening match against CSK.

The Hyderabad pitch in all likelihood will assist the seamers. Hardik Pandya sustained an ankle injury and wasn’t seen in the practice sessions. It remains to be seen which player replaces Hardik Pandya if the all-rounder is ruled out for the rest of the tournament.

Predicted XI:  Rohit Sharma (c), Evin Lewis, Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya/Saurabh Tiwary, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Mayank Markande, Mitchell McClenaghan, Mustafizur Rahman, Jasprit Bumrah.

Match Prediction

It has been a pretty tough season for me as far as predictions are concerned. I had predicted the opening game to be won by the Mumbai Indians.

However, it was the yellow brigade who returned triumphant. Mumbai have a more settled unit. However, Williamson being the new captain will look to control things.

Hyderabad has a good team on paper, but my intuitions go for the Mumbai Indians. The blue brigade has a settled unit, and I will back themselves to win today’s game.
