India pacer, Mohammed Shami, has joined Delhi Daredevils’ pre-season camp in Delhi ahead of the start of the T20 tournament.
Shami was the centre of controversy in past few days due to personal issues.
This also saw BCCI dropping him from the central contract list.
However, he was handed the central contract as soon as BCCI cleared him of any fixing charge.
It also cleared him to play in IPL and Shami joined the team today (April 2).
He was purchased retained by Delhi Daredevils by the use of Right to Match card (RTM) for Rs 3 Crore.
Shami is expected to play a major part of the season as there is no Zaheer Khan in the team.
Until last year, Shami did not have fix place in playing XI.
Being the most experienced pacer in the team now, Shami looks all set to be a permanent member of Delhi Daredevils’ playing XI.
He will be joined by likes of in the pace department.
Gautam Gambhir will lead Delhi Daredevils in the coming season of IPL.
He was purchased by the franchise for Rs 2.80 Crore in the auction.
The team has a new Head Coach in form of Ricky Ponting.
He has coached Mumbai Indians to two IPL titles in past (2013 and 2015).
Ponting has also had two stints as coach of Australia T20I side as well.
The franchise would hope for a great season ahead as it has great players in its ranks.
Meanwhile, the franchise is not happy with it playing five straight away games right from the start.
Delhi Daredevils only play their first home game on April 23 against Kings XI Punjab.
A couple of losses in away games at the start could have a real impact on Delhi Daredevils’ chances.
They open their IPL campaign against Kings XI Punjab in an away on April 8.
