IPL 2018: Most Valuable Players for the eleventh edition

After the soccer world has set the trend of transferring the ace players against the big pool of money, the domestic professional cricket leagues like Indian Premier League (IPL) is not that far—to achieve the same fold in the foreseeable future.

Recently, eight distinct franchise of the burgeoning IPL has geared up for the practice before vying for the title before the start of IPL 2018.

The top draw in the cricketing world – IPL will kick off with the curtain raiser MI v CSK.

Talking about contributions for the team, players have had shouldered the responsibility to rise to the occasion from time-to-time.

Interestingly, the high-profile players like Martin Guptill, Hashim Amla, Joe Root and Eoin Morgan went unsold for the IPL season eleven during the two-day mega auction on January 27 and 28 in Bengaluru respectively.

Pertinently, there are several game changers in every team’s list.

Following Andrew Tye’s brilliant performance with the ball alongside the Purple Cap holder Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the last season, there has been a player like Dwayne Bravo, who made a return to the IPL.

Arguably the best in business, from David Warner to Steven Smith, who were among the leading run-scorers at first number four spots in the previous season.

Meanwhile, both are now serving the ban of one-year each sanctioned by Cricket Australia (CA) following the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town.

Adding a point of reference; only Sunrisers Hyderabad, this time around, will be led by a foreign player in the form of New Zealand’s nonchalant batsman Kane Williamson.

Crunching Numbers of IPL:

To further talk about the peppy numbers, Suresh Raina is the all-time leading run-scorer in IPL with 4,540 runs. Swashbuckling Chris Gayle is sitting on the top of most sixes list with 265 as he further set the highest total of 175 unbeaten in an innings.

On the other side, another Windies brute force with the bat Andre Russell has the best batting strike-rate with 173.41.

Coming to the bowling fold, Yorker-specialist Lasith Malinga has bagged the most number of wickets with 154 and Sohail Tanvir is still cherishing the best bowling figures of six for 14.

The best economy with the bowling came from Sunil Narine which read as 6. 32 and Australian Doug Bollinger maintained the best bowling average of 18.72.

We have not inducted the skippers of teams who stand as the obvious choice – to score big for the respective outfits.

In addition, we might the heart racing thrillers, magical performances and perfect execution of the distinct teams yet again in the impending leg of the IPL.

The middle-order batsman Suresh Raina has fought his way hard to return to the national fold.

The left-handed batsman Raina has been incredible on the field to attract the IPL bidders. Before returning to the Chennai Super Kings to play under Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Raina has trained hard to keep himself fit.

The aggressive batsman Raina was retained by CSK alongside skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja on January 4.

The experienced campaigner Raina is ready to pounce on the opportunities being thrown in his way.

Classical in his approach, Raina featured in 161 matches as he went on to amass 4,540 runs at an average of 34.13. He struck a century and 31 fifties.

What makes him a big factor is his bowling ability and he could help out his leader owing to the leadership tactic. With his slow bowling, Raina bagged 25 wickets after conceding 1,112 runs in 902 deliveries.

Rajasthan Royals – Ben Stokes:

England all-rounder is the ultimate source of entertainment well be it with the bat or a ball.

The 26-year-old Durham- based professional has fetched a lucrative deal of INR 12.5 crore from Rajasthan Royals management.

Stokes could play a crucial role for the Jaipur-based outfit Royals – to make most out of the IPL 11.

The franchise remained defunct for two years due to the spot-fixing scandal which rocked the cricketing world in 2013.

The prolific cricketer Stokes is known for his remarkable performance and could prove himself as the vital cog in the camp of Orange Army.

Of the heroics and crestfallen professional, Stokes has already stood on the thin line.

Ben Stokes, who turned out to be the fortune for now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant in the 10th edition.

The rollicking performer on the field, Stokes in his maiden IPL stint in 2017 scored 316 runs in 12 matches at an average of 31.60. He smashed a hundred and fifty respectively.

With his medium pace bowling, Stokes left the solid impact while bagging 12 wickets at the bowling average of 26.33.

Delhi Daredevils – Kagiso Rabada:

The 23-year-old speedster Kagiso Rabada has been impressive since he broke into the Under-19 squad for South Africa. However, the aggressive paceman went on to make his IPL debut like Rashid Khan in 2017 for Delhi Daredevils.

In six matches, Rabada claimed six scalps with the average of higher side. With more at stake, Rabada is known for being as a fierce competitor.

Rabada will serve as the vital cog for the Daredevils attack under the aggressive leader Gautam Gambhir.

The Proteas bowler Rabada has been consistent is one amount the players who could change the game singlehandedly.

Mumbai Indians – Jasprit Bumrah:

There are many key players for the reigning champions Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai-based franchise is immensely benefitted by the death-bowling specialist Jasprit Bumrah.

The star youngster Bumrah, who has also been nursed by Sri Lankan veteran bowler Lasith Malinga, is looking forward to delivering more while having the experience of playing the short-paced competition since 2013.

In 2012, Lynn turned out to be the part of Knight Riders when the side lifted their first coveted IPL title before sealing the second in 2014 under Gambhir

Since four years, Lynn has just featured in 12 matches in which seven came in 2017.

In the previously held edition, Lynn pummeled the bowlers all over the park. He registered the average of 49.16 in seven outing. He overall played 12 matches in which he scored 384 runs and went on to register three fifties.

Known for getting his team off to a flier, Lynn is a right card to set the base. He secured INR 9.6 crore when RTM came into the play.

Royal Challengers Bangalore – Yuzvendra Chahal:

With batters decimating the bowlers, Virat Kohli would look to make most of his leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

The rising star Chahal has been phenomenal alongside Kuldeep Yadav for Indian in South Africa.

The 27-year-old Haryana-based Chahal is the most sought after slow bowler for the Bangalore-based franchise.

Having the attacking intent with the ball, Chahal could be again instrumental for the struggling RCB. He has the ability to set the tone for his side in order to spring a surprise.

RCB team has been struggling while languishing on the bottom half-of-the-table.

Kings XI Punjab – Andrew Tye:

Andrew Tye, the Australian pace bowler has cherished his dream-run in the first edition of IPL.

Tye bowled a terrific spell to claim his best figures of five for 17 against Rising Pune Supergiant.

In his maiden entry into the successful league for the Gujarat Lions. Tye represented in just six matches in which he bagged 12 wickets at an impressive average of 11.75.

Interestingly, the five-for included a sensation hat-trick. Tye represented the then Raina-led Lions in just six matches.
