India’s Test wicket-keeper batsman, Wriddhiman Saha, who is representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) has admitted that opening the batting has been a big advantage for him.
Meanwhile, Saha provided a great start to Hyderabad on their last outing against Kolkata Knight Riders. Moreover, he would like to continue the momentum he has got during the previous outing.
Saha has so far scored 51 runs in three games with scores of 5, 22 and 24, respectively.
Coach and captain has backed me
The calm and composed Saha admitted coach Tom Moody, and skipper Kane Williamson has backed him to play his natural game.
He also noted that they had given him the full freedom to got out and express himself.
“I like to play my natural game. The coach (Tom Moody) and captain (Kane Williamson) have backed me on this, and I have got an opportunity to open the innings, which is a plus point. They have told me to play with freedom and play my natural shots,” Saha told PTI.
Talking about continuing to open the innings, Saha said it depends on the team management.
“This depends on team management. If I do well as an opener, I will be entrusted to take up the responsibility, but if I don’t come up to their expectations, then they may think of other options. But I want to even better my performance,” he added.
Williamson brings positive vibes to the team
Saha talked highly of skipper Williamson and admitted he gives full freedom to the players. He also noted that Kane is open to suggestions during the game.
“Kane is always open to suggestions from teammates during the game. He gives us freedom, and he remains very relaxed, calm and brings positive vibes. Under him, our team bonding is very good,” Saha mentioned.
The cricketer from Bengal stressed that a superb show from the bowlers has eased out the pressure from the batsmen.
“Apart from the bowlers who are in the playing XI, we have fantastic bench strength. Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar), Rashid Khan, Siddarth (Kaul), Shakib (Al Hasan), Billy Stanlake have been bowling well and have helped restrict the opposition to totals in the 150 region,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad will take on Kings XI Punjab later today (Thursday) in Mohali.
