ToggleThe defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will look to replicate their performance when they start their campaign in the eleventh edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), this weekend.
Meanwhile, they are the successful team in the history of the league having won the title thrice.
Rohit Sharma-led Indians have retained five of their core players, and in all likelihood, all those players will be part of the playing XI on most of the occasions.
They have a nice blend of experienced cricketers along with young Indian cricketers.
However, they have a strong bowling line up with Jasprit Bumrah and Mustafizur Rahman in their ranks.
The Mumbai based team will start off their campaign against Chennai Super Kings on April 7 at the historic Wankhede Stadium.
Evin Lewis:
The Windies left-handed opener is one of the most sought after cricketers especially in the shortest format of the game.
He can hit the ball really hard and has the ability to clear the field. Lewis also has a T20I hundred to his name.
Ishan Kishan (WK):
The wicket-keeper batsman bursts on to the scene post-ICC Under-19 World Cup. He has done really well in the domestic circuit and has the ability to play shots.
Kishan recently struck a hundred in a charity match and will likely want to continue his form.
Rohit Sharma (C):
Star Indian batsman Rohit Sharma has led the team to three IPL titles. He is the most successful captains in the history of IPL.
Also, over the years he has led the batting unit scoring bulk of runs. He will again lead the team to a successful campaign.
Krunal Pandya:
The elder of the Pandya brother’s has the ability to contribute in all the departments. Hardik Pandya can chip in with four crucial overs in the middle and also has the knack of breaking partnerships.
He is also effective with the bat in the middle-overs and is a terrific striker of the ball.
However, it was his brilliant knock in the final which helped Mumbai seal a sensational one-run victory – to lift their third title since 2008.
Keiron Pollard:
The hard-hitting all-rounder from Windies Keiron Pollard has done tremendously well for the Mumbai Indians. Meanwhile, he has become a synonym of success to his side.
Also, he has a lot of experience behind back which has helped the team over the years.
He will be eager to continue his form in the brand new edition.
Surya Kumar Yadav:
The batsman from Mumbai Suraya Kumar Yadav has been a part of title-winning Kolkata Knight Riders squad. He bats in the lower-middle order and can score some quick runs.
The right-handed Yadav can clear the boundary and can also rotate the strike with such an ease.
Hardik Pandya:
The junior of the Pandya brother’s is currently the best all-rounder India has. He is a powerful hitter of the ball and can consistently bowl over 135-140 km/hr.
He can smash sixes at will and can pick wickets at crucial junctures.
Meanwhile, it is from here that Pandya got through the national team.
Ben Cutting:
The Aussie all-rounder Ben Cutting is a sensational hitter of the ball and a good bowler as well. He can play the long handle to great effect and can also contribute with some crucial overs.
Cutting earlier played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.
Mustafizur Rahman:
Since bursting onto the international scene, Mustafizur Rahman has earned a name for himself. He also led the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling attack in 2016 – to give them their maiden title.
Although, he has seen a dip in form of late, but is a threat to every batting-order on his day.
Rahul Chahar:
The young leg-spinner Rahul Chahar will provide a balance to the squad with his wrist spin. Previously, he played for Pune Supergiant(s).
Chahar will be eager to make a mark in IPL 2018.
Jasprit Bumrah:
Over the years, the wily customer with a ball Jasprit Bumrah has grown in stature playing for the Mumbai Indians team. He also made his debut after a successful stint for Indians.
The promising youngster Bumrah will be keen to bring his superlative game in front for the Mumbai side in this edition.
