Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman Sanju Samson has had a dream start to this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) scoring most of the runs for his team.

Meanwhile, out of the four matches, he has already got two man-of-the-match awards and is the second highest run-scorer as well. Although he failed to score in his last outing, he would look to contribute towards his team’s success.

However, the Royals has had a mixed start with two wins from four matches. They will be eager to improve the statistics when they face Chennai Super Kings on April 20 (Friday).

It feels good to contribute

Talking to Hindustan Times, Samson revealed it’s a great feeling to contribute to team’s success. However, he reminded that it is just the start of the tournament and he will look to carry on.

It feels really good to contribute for the team’s success. It really matters when your team wins and you contribute. But the tournament has just started, it is very long, so it is important for me to keep my head down and keep on focussing on scoring runs and helping my team to get some good score on the board,” Samson said.

Samson credited Dav Whatmore, his state team coach a lot for his success. The young batsman feels Whatmore has brought fresh air in Kerala dressing room.

He also credited him for installing the confidence back and giving him the confidence to back his natural game.

The 23-year old Samson also admitted it feels great to get praise from the legends of the game. However, he feels there is a lot of scopes to improve and wants to focus on that.

Not worried about India return

Samson made his international debut way back in 2015 in a T20 against Zimbabwe. Since then, he has found himself out of the team despite having good statistics behind his back.

The stylish batter looked practical talking about his potential return. He said if it has to happen it will happen. He also reminded he wants to focus on the process and not think about future.

I don’t see myself making a return to any team. I don’t want to see the future nor my past. All those things are not in your control. When I got selected in 2015, I never thought that I was going to be picked. Things automatically happen, you never draw a line to your goal, that’s what I figured out from my experience.

I don’t want to see myself reaching there; it will automatically happen if it has to happen. But the main thing which is in my control is to improve my fitness, game, cricketing skills and performance. Opportunities are always there. If you are not playing for India, then it is Kerala. The domestic season is so big, plus you have the IPL, India A tours. I am not worried about selections,” he concluded.
