ToggleIn the recent press conference conducted by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan went ahead and claimed that SRH’s spin line-up is the best in the tournament.
The bowling mentor of the Hyderabad-based franchise seemed elated with the quality and depth of spinners in their ranks.
From Rashid Khan to Shakib Al Hasan and Mehedi Hasan to Bipul Sharma, SRH possesses a vast depth as far spin resources are concerned.
Also, the Orange Army will be witnessing part-timers in the form of Deepak Hooda and Yusuf Pathan chipping in the middle overs.
“Yes, definitely. Shakib is a very consistent bowler. He has been part of numerous World Cups and T20s apart from representing KKR for a long stint. Also, he can bowl in the death and even in the powerplays, which is a big asset,” Murali replied when asked whether SRH’s spin attack is the best in the tournament.
“Rashid, on the hand, is a formidable wicket-taker. Every team needs to have a wicket-taking spinner. So we can use him even more. Last year we saw a lot during powerplays, this year Shakib can cover that. Rashid will be useful in the middle overs,” Muralitharan said during the press conference.
To win championships, you need spinners: Murali
Murali also thanked his colleagues, VVS Laxman and Tom Moody for their wonderful work at the auction and giving him the desired spin attack.
“We can’t underestimate others as well because we got Bipul, Mehedi, Yusuf, and Hooda. So we have a formidable spin attack and I’m extremely happy with the line up after the auctions. To win a championship, you need spinners,” affirmed the bowler with the most number of Int’l wickets.
Further, Muttiah Muralitharan hopes to see a greater number of spinners in the XI, given the all-round balance in the team.
“This year we will get to see more spinners due to the all-round balance in the side. Last few editions, usually we went ahead with only two spinners,” concluded Muttiah Muralitharan.
