IPL 2018: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings – Match Report
43 runs required off 18 balls, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has got their best bowlers, Siddharth Kaul and Bhuvneshwar Kumar – to deliver 12 out of them but all of a sudden, the weighing balance shifted towards Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as Faf du Plessis and Shardul Thakur took the opportunity with both hands when Kane Williamson called Carlos Braithwaite to deliver remaining those six balls.
The incredible knock from Faf du Plessis and the collective bowling effort from the team in the first innings of the game saw the Super Kings enter playoff berth for nine times in their ten-year journey.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – CSK bowlers wrecks havoc, Braithwaite shows his charisma:
Initially, it was Mahendra Singh Dhoni who won the toss and asked the league table toppers to bat first. Justifying the toss, Deepak Chahar has made the mess of Dhawan’s furniture behind the wickets right in the first ball while Lungi’s stunning reflex catch sent Goswami back to the hut.
Kane Williamson started off brilliantly but went back in a bizarre fashion when he edged leg-side wide delivery while Shakib followed his skipper in the same fashion. Manish Pandey yet again disappointed the fans when he gave an easy return catch to Jadeja.
However, the big lads of SRH, Yusuf Pathan, and Carlos Braithwaite turned the things by their rotation of strike while Yusuf fetched occasional boundaries. Just when things are in favour of SRH, Bravo turned it back by taking a sublime return catch of Yusuf’s willow.
Though wickets are tumbling from one end, Carlos Braithwaite kept his cool and thwacked CSK bowlers in the slog overs to fetch a handsome 139 runs on the board from a situation when they were looked like bundling under 100.
Chennai Super Kings – Faf du Plessis’ one-man show seals it for CSK despite SRH’s brilliance:
In reply to the chase, Sunrisers got the dream start when Bhuvneshwar sent back Shane Watson for a nought while Siddharth Kaul bowled two beauty deliveries – to get rid off Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu in a quick succession thus leaving all the hopes on Dhoni.
But, the go-to man for Willaimson, Rashid Khan struck right in his first over when he scalped the big fish, Dhoni and then sent Dwayne Bravo back to the hut.
All of a sudden, the Chennai Super Kings fans sat in their places with hands on their head while the SRH fans were over the moon.
Faf du Plessis who is watching all the drama from one end struck boundaries often than not to keep the game alive. When he was waiting for one good over to bring back CSK back on the line, he got Braithwaite to snatch those crucial runs. He smacked him for 20 runs to bring the game right back to CSK.
When it required 23 runs off 12 balls, the two edges from Shardul Thakur has been raced to boundaries from either side of the wicketkeeper thus taking out a complete pressure. When it required six off six, Faf finished in style smashed a six off first ball itself.
SRH – 139/7; Carlos Braithwaite (43), Williamson (24); Bravo (2/25)
CSK – 140/8; Faf du Plessis (67*), Shardul Thakur (15*); Rashid 2/11
