IPL 2018: There Were Hardly Any Balls, Difficult for Our Batsmen - Gautam Gambhir 1
Gautam Gambhir

Delhi Daredevil’s skipper, Gautam Gambhir looked dejected after losing yet another game. The visitors failed to chase down the revised target of 71 runs from six overs.

It looked like a good move to send Glenn Maxwell ahead with Colin Munro.

But as it turned out, Munro felt short of his crease after being involved in a mix-up with Maxwell. The dismissal gave Rajasthan Royals a shot on their arm, as newbie K Gowtham finished the over conceding just ten runs.

Delhi’s charge – Too little, too late

Maxwell failed to take charge initially but found the ropes on three occasions. Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant tried his best to bail his team out of the situation, but his 14-ball 20 wasn’t good enough. A late charge by all-rounder Chris Morris was too little too late for the red devils as they went down by ten runs (D/L).

Post the encounter, Gambhir said it was a tailor-made wicket for the batters. He added the bowlers did a good job to restrict the opposition to a par score.

Spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, who came in place of Amit Mishra did a good job. He bowled his four overs and gave away 34 runs, picking two wickets.

“It was a beautiful wicket to bat on. One of the flattest wickets. Thought if we could contain them to 170, we had a good chance. We had to go from ball 1. There are hardly any balls, difficult for our batsmen.” Gambhir said.

Trent Boult started off well and got the prized scalp of Ben Stokes. The Royals’ all-rounder looked in good touch but edged one to the keeper for 16.

Boult conceded 26 runs from his three overs. The other pacer Mohammed Shami too came off well. He bowled at an economy of 7.56 and scalped the stick of Jos Buttler before rain interrupted the game.
