ToggleThe ongoing 11th edition of the Indian Premier League will witness some of the biggest names in the cricketing circuit.
One such name is that of Chris Gayle. Known as the ‘Universe Boss’, the explosive opener was roped in by Kings XI Punjab.
It surely raised a few eyebrows when the Royal Challengers Bangalore think tank opted to leave out Gayle. The flamboyant Windies batter went unsold in the first two rounds of the bidding.
We thought of infusing new people: Kohli
RCB’s skipper Virat Kohli revealed the reason behind leaving out Gayle.
“He has done a great job for RCB over the past few years but looking at the team dynamics for the next three years the decision was taken. We thought of infusing new people who will give us the kind of balance we require,” Virat said.
Kohli added the team doesn’t want to rely on one or two individuals.
“I do not want to take anything away from Chris as we just decided to go in with the balance that can sustain the team in the next three years. We did not want to be relying on two or three people all the time,” he added.
RCB had a poor run in last year’s IPL, and it clearly called for changes.
RCB sets up a fresh core team
The Bangalore-based franchise retained youngster Sarfaraz Khan. The side wanted to start fresh with a solid core group of players for the coming three years of the IPL. They are yet to win the trophy, having made it to the finals on three occasions.
The Kohli-led side finished bottom placed in IPL 2017. It was a drastic change as the same side made it to the finals in the previous edition. The unit will face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
