After years of wait, the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw the yellow of Chennai Super Kings return into action against old foes Mumbai Indians at their fortress.
Post the high-octane opening ceremony the real stars took centre stage with Rohit Sharma was made to bat by MS Dhoni.
Young Ishan Kishan and local hero Suryakumar Yadav laid a solid foundation for the Pandya brothers to finish the job for their side.
However, CSK’s chase was brought to a halt by rookie spinner Mayank Markande, who scalped three vital wickets.
Apart from Dwayne Bravo, none of the batsmen threatened to chase down the score of 165 set by Mumbai Indians.
Dwayne Bravo turned the match around its head with his 30-ball 68 and snatched victory for the men in yellow from the jaws of defeat.
The finishing touch was provided by a limping Kedar Jadhav who smashed the winning runs, as CSK won the match by just one run.
Due to his efforts with both bat and ball, the Trinidadian was awarded the man of the match.
Bravo was splendid with both bat and ball
During the presentation ceremony, Dwayne Bravo dedicated the special knock to the CSK fans who waited patiently for two years.
“It was a great team effort. Want to dedicate this win to CSK fans. They waited so long for this moment. I’m happy. CSK have shown a lot of faith in me,” said Bravo after bagging his award
“Wanted to give myself the best opportunity to start well. Here at Wankhede, once you bat deep, chances are you’ll win the game. Just happy with the win tonight,” concluded the West Indian.
