It has been that sort of edition for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on a particular day, they will perform like a champion side, on the other day, they look like relying on one or two players. However, the skipper of Kings XI Punjab, Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t look like a worried man as he feels it is a matter of a game to get back into the groove.

I think we gave maybe ten runs over par: Ashwin

Though the skipper hasn’t blamed anyone for the loss, he added that they had given away 10 extra runs which cost them dearly at the end.

Explaining the approach to the chase, Ashwin asserted that they wanted to attack the powerplay overs as the pitch was becoming harder and harder as every ball passes on.

“I think we gave maybe ten runs over par. We lost too many wickets upfront, and in the end, you saw how much you could catch up and we should have continued like we did in the last game. It was pretty evident that the wicket would get tougher and tougher. We wanted to attack in the powerplay, get ahead of the game and take it from there,” Ashwin said during a presentation.

My promotion up the order is an experiment: losing skipper

Everyone would have surprised to see Ashwin coming ahead of the regular batsmen in the side. But, Ashwin defended it by saying that it was an experiment by the management which didn’t work well.

Ashwin further stressed that they know their limitations and would want to try out certain combinations.

”Me coming up the order was an experiment, we were planning it in the last game as well. We are a team that knows our limitations and we are trying to counter it with our combinations. No, I am not worried about the situation we are in; if you would have given me six wins out of ten games I would have taken it hands down,” Ashwin added.

However, the win ensured Rajasthan Royals to stay alive in the tourney while the loss for Kings XI  narrowed their possibilities to top the points table. Currently, Punjab collected 12 points as Rajasthan with fourth win managed eight points.

Coming to upcoming assignment for Kings XI, they will head back to their den, Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore again, in order to take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 12th.

Last time, it was KL Rahul and Chris Gayle who wrecked havoc against KKR at Eden Gardens under the leadership of Ravichandran Ashwin.
