It was a dramatic return for the men in yellow. Wankhede witnessed the defending champions go down to MS Dhoni’s men in the last over of the game.
Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma was restricted to a mere spectator, as Dwayne Bravo’s brilliance proved to be the difference.
A nail-biting affair
With 47 runs to get off 18 balls, not many would have thought Chennai Super Kings to cross the line.
But the game of uncertainty proved too costly for Mumbai towards the end. Bravo’s 30-ball 68 will go down as one of the most thrilling knocks in the history of the IPL.
Credit to Bravo: Rohit Sharma
Rohit was gutted at the post-match event. He said the bowlers tried their best to bowl yorkers, but Bravo was just too good.
The most successful IPL skipper added it was good learning for all.
“Not feeling good at the moment. We have to give the credit to Bravo. We tried to get the yorker, but we couldn’t get it. We need to improve our execution. We were in the game till the 17th over. Anyway, good learning for all of us. With the dew coming it, it was difficult for the bowlers. We felt we were 10-15 runs short.” he said.
The Mumbai skipper failed to fire with the bat, scoring just 15 off 18 balls. It was Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav who steadied the ship before Krunal Pandya slam banged the opposition.
Ishan made 40 while Yadav chipped in with 43. The Pandya brothers finished the Mumbai innings in style. Krunal made 43* and Hardik ended with 22*.
The start of a new season couldn’t have been better. On the other hand, Mumbai has always been slow starters, and therefore they have a fair bit of games to experiment and make a comeback in the league.
