Kolkata Knight Riders‘ skipper Dinesh Karthik will have a tough job getting the combination right, as they succumbed to yet another defeat.

The pacers in purple leaked 79 runs in seven overs while the trusted spinners went for 60 in 12.

Chris Lynn provided a fine start to the Knight Riders’ innings at home. Lynn missed out on his fifty by just a run. Karthik played a good hand of 29 off 27 balls, and apart from that, no one else had that intent to take the innings forward.

Setting a target of 139 against a side that had chased such totals for fun in this year’s IPL didn’t augur well for the hosts. But for a change, Shikhar Dhawan failed to set off the tempo of Sunrisers’ innings.

He got out for seven but not before his opening partner Wriddhiman Saha hit those lusty drives in his hometown.

Karthik on the change in batting order

On being asked regarding the plan to promote Robin Uthappa in place of Sunil Narine, Karthik said,

“We want our batting order to have some novelty. We sent Narine in because they were using a left-arm spinner that time.”

On their innings, Karthik said they fell short.

“I was thinking 160-170 would be a good target but didn’t happen. Sunrisers have some good bowlers, and on a given day you have to gauge who isn’t bowling well and then go after him. We’ll have to turn around quickly.” he added.

Dhawan wears the Orange cap

Sunrisers opener Dhawan, who made scores of 78*,45 and seven received the Orange cap for being the leading run-scorer so far in this edition of the IPL.

He said playing the aggressive brand of cricket helped his game.

“We win our third game on the trot and enjoying the winning streak. From last year’s IPL, I’ve chosen to play aggressive. Whether David (Warner) is here or not, I’ll play aggressive. I’m not gonna hold back. Things have been changing for more than year now. Just trying to enjoy the journey, and mistakes are part of the process. I’m a big believer in process so just want to keep everything going as it is.” Dhawan said.
