Left-arm spinner Axar Patel was one of the best players for the Kings XI Punjab in the last season of the IPL.
He bagged 15 wickets in the season. The southpaw was quite efficient with the bat as well scoring 227 runs. Axar’s all-round abilities were the main reason behind KXIP’s decision to retain him. He was the only player to get retained by the franchise.
In the recent auctions, Kings XI Punjab made wholesome changes. They appointed Ravichandran Ashwin as the skipper of the team.
Yuvraj Singh is another senior member on the team. Meanwhile, there is no doubt about the fact that Axar is one of the main players in the side.
The spinner admitted he keeps talking to Yuvraj Singh to gain more and more experience from him.
”Yuvraj is one of the legends of the game. We keep talking to each other whenever we can. His main point is that each player has his own mindset and technique. Follow your strengths is his mantra.” Axar Patel said about Yuvraj Singh was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
Axar also heaped praises on Yuvraj. He stated the stylish southpaw had given him many batting tips. Yuvraj had also given Axar enough batting tips.
“His knowledge of the game is immense and he shares it with me often. In the net sessions, he tells me that if the ball is in your area then you should go for it and if it’s not in your zone, then you should know how to maneuver it. He keeps insisting that I focus on my strength. So yeah, he does help me with my batting,” he added.
Axar added the players participating in the tournament are all aware of their strengths and weaknesses. The spinner further added he doesn’t let critics give an opinion on his game.
“Playing on such a big platform, you know your strengths and weakness, and with each passing season, you do need to bring in a few changes. As far as bowling is concerned, I stick to my plan. A lot of people have told me that I bowl fast and should reduce my pace but I have my own gameplan and I stick to what I have been doing best.” Patel said
