Former India cricketer, Zaheer Khan, will not be doing commentary during the coming season of IPL. Instead, he has joined a cricket website as an expert for the IPL.
There were reports that he might do commentary during IPL but former India pacer has opted to be on the expert panel instead.
There were also reports that he might join any IPL team in the capacity of a coach or mentor, but that to did not happen either. Zaheer Khan looked all set to play the eleventh season of IPL as well.
However, when BCCI released the list of players for the season, his name was missing from the list. It came as a surprise, as he looked all set to play at least two more seasons of the league.
Zaheer played for Delhi Daredevils in the previous IPL season and also led the team. He joined Delhi Daredevils in 2015 and played for the team for three years. He was a player-cum-mentor for Delhi Daredevils.
Zaheer retired from international cricket in 2015 after all hopes of making a comeback to Indian team were over. He wasn’t even part of the team in World Cup 2015.
His last Test appearance came in 2014 against New Zealand while he played his final ODI in 2012. A veteran of 92 Test matches and 200 ODIs, Zaheer retired with 311 Test and 282 ODI scalps.
In 2017, he was appointed as the bowling consultant of Indian cricket team by BCCI.
However, BCCI did not hand any official contract to him, and the deal did not materialise, as he was looking to play another season of IPL.
Appointment of Bharat Arun meant that Ravi Shastri wanted his management and Zaheer didn’t take over the role. The veteran bowler seems to continue being on the expert panel and doing commentary for long.
The upcoming season of IPL kicks off on April 7 with Mumbai Indians facing Chennai Super Kings in the first game.
