There is certainly no doubt about the fact that MS Dhoni is one of the finest captains India has ever seen and has led India and Chennai Super Kings to several victories in the past decade or so. He has led his troops quite brilliantly in the ongoing IPL so far and has been the highest run scorer for CSK with the bat He has led with the bat from the front and has been instrumental in ensuring Chennai Super Kings finished at the top 2 in the points table.
After losing the Qualifier 1 against Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings are all set to lock horns against the Delhi Capitals in the Qualifier 2. CSK will definitely start as the favourites for the clash. However, DC has also played some excellent brand of cricket and should pose a serious challenge to CSK who has been pretty ordinary as a batting group barring a few individual flashes of brilliance in some of the matches.
Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar feels that the presence of MS Dhoni in the CSK dressing room has helped them immensely. However, he did accept that the CSK fielders have been casual on the field and have hardly shown any sort of excitement in the field.
“While Delhi has a frenzied look about them, Chennai, led by their uber-cool captain, give a serene, unhurried impression on the field. Even while fielding, they seem to move almost casually and hardly show excitement at anything. The exception, of course, is when Imran Tahir gets a wicket. The manner in which he takes off into the deep cover position is delightful.”
Sunil Gavaskar further heaped praises on MS Dhoni as a skipper and compared him with the likes of Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar. He said that he is the only cricketer after Tendulkar and Kapil Dev to call each and every cricketing venue in India his home ground.
“The one time Chennai seem to come to life is when MSD is at the crease. Before he starts to unwind those arms, he has unwound his legs with some of the most frenetic running one can hope to see. After Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar, he is the one player for whom every venue is like home,” he said.
