IPL 2019: BCCI Likely to Announce the Schedule on Monday
Feb 3, 2019 at 2:12 PM
The recent reports suggested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely going to announce the much-awaited scheduled of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) on Monday (February 4).
According to the Mumbai Mirror, the Board may reveal schedule on the date mentioned above. However, T20 calendar is provisional as the successful league will clash with the timing of 2019 General Elections.
With the expected changes for dates and venues due to the Lok Sabha Elections, the league will also serve as preparation for the 2019 World Cup.
Earlier, the cash-rich Board quashes the reports of shifting of the league. The twelfth edition of IPL will commence from March 23.
However, the two-month-long cricketing carnival is expected to culminate in early May which would also provide players enough time to partake in the World Cup in England and Wales. The ODI showpiece will commence from May 30 and culminate on July 14.
IPL outside from India:
Earlier, there have been two occasions when authorities shifted IPL outside India. In 2009, South Africa hosted the second edition of the IPL due to the General Elections. Eventually, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) hosted the first half of the seventh edition of the league in 2014.
Foreign players could leave mid-way:
Interestingly, the upcoming edition of the lucrative league will witness overseas pick leaving their respective franchises at the earliest to have ample time for the World Cup preparation.
Defending Champions CSK:
Owing to a reunion, Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) sealed the title of the eleventh edition. Interestingly, the side made a return to the fold after a two-year hiatus alongside Rajasthan Royals (RR). The franchises serve the ban regarding the 2013 IPL spot-fixing saga.
On May 27, 2018, CSK rode on a magnificent ton of Shane Watson. The Yellow Army went on to register an emphatic wicket eight-wicket win over Kane Williamson’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Mumbai.
CSK sits on the top with three titles alongside Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI).
