Yet another brilliant day at the office for Chennai Super Kings. The flamboyant Chennai team had done exceptionally well in the defending a moderate total on the board. Meanwhile, Mahendra Singh Dhoni quoted that the wicket of Chris Gayle wicket was important while defending such a tally. He lauded Harbhajan Singh for standing tall when it matters the most.
In reply Chennai’s 160, Kings XI Punjab lost Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal in the same over when Harbhajan Singh bowled in the 2nd over of the game. This made KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan play the game slowly.
Despite that, the duo added a few crucial runs in the middle. In fact, they took away the game from Chennai Super Kings. However, the fine piece of bowling display from Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir kept Chennai in the game.
We have to get Universe boss out first – MS Dhoni
Speaking of the wicket of Chris Gayle, MS Dhoni quoted that the wicket of Universe boss is the must in such a chase. He feels that even 200 wasn’t enough on the board if Chris Gayle gets them going.
”We have to get the Universe boss OUT. If he gets going even 200 wouldn’t have been enough, Bhajji got us wicket otherwise 160 was not enough. It was not a placid wicket but it became better in the second half. All three spinners did really well for us. Bhajji was really needed, over the years only off-spinners have troubled Chris Gayle,” MS Dhoni said.
Whenever chips are down, crowd lifts us:
Further, he hailed the crowd for their fantastic support for the franchsie. He also lauded the effort of Scott in the final overs of the game and asked him to get better in the powerplay overs of the game as well.
”Last couple of overs of Scott were brilliant. It was important for him to come well because he had to bowl in the powerplay. Crowd support us 100%, whenever chips are down they lift us. It really helps when the crowd is behind. They come not only for games but also for practice. The love and affection showed by them are amazing,” he added.
On a concluding note, Dhoni quoted that it would be brilliant to see the team on the top of the table. MS Dhoni believes that there is still room for improvement.
”It feels got to be on top of the points table but it is a constant process, only 5 to 6 matches have been played and we need to keep improving in all aspects,” he concluded.
All in all, it has been a sensational effort from Chennai Super Kings to defend such a moderate total. Now, they will host Kolkata Knight Riders in their next game on April 9th.
