IPL 2019: Both Hetmyer, Gurkeerat Played Really Well – Virat Kohli
Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli gave credit to Shimron Hetmyer and Gurkeerat Mann Singh for the team’s four-wicket win over SRH. The pair added 144 runs after RCB had their backs against the wall as they were tottering for 20-3. However, Shimron Hetmyer scored 75 runs from 47 balls whereas Gurkeerat Mann Singh scored 65 off 48.
Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a fighting score of 175 after their skipper Kane Williamson roared back to form and scored a fine knock of 70 runs off 43 balls. On the other hand, Washington Sundar was the pick of the RCB bowlers as the off-spinner scalped three wickets.
Kohli gives credit to the fans.
In reply, Royal Challengers Bangalore could not get off to a good start as they lost three early wickets of Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. However, Shimron Hetmyer and Gurkeerat Mann Singh added a fine alliance to put Bangalore’s innings on the right track of the run-chase.
Both the batsmen scored their maiden fifty of the season. In fact, Hetmyer was the aggressor in the partnership whereas Singh took a backseat. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli also gave credit to the team’s fans.
Virat Kohli said in the post-match presentation, “We won last 6 of our 7 matches and it is something that we can be proud of. It is such a short format that often 5 or 7 minutes decide the outcome. We can be proud of the boys played in the final few matches. When I and ABD got out, I think the opposition took it lightly. Both Hetmyer and Gurkeerat played really. We know Hetmyer can play like that. And Gurkeerat played a really mature inning. Hats-off to this crowd. They are the best fans in the IPL.”
On the other hand, Virat Kohli said that they were able to better their performance in the second half of the season. Kohli added that had they won at least two out of the first six matches they lost, they could have qualified for the last four.
It was a good second half.
Kohli added, “If we focus on the second half, it is exactly what we wanted in the first half. After losing your first six matches, it is very difficult to comeback in a tournament like IPL. We have a lot to learn from this season. The first couple of things matters a lot in setting the intensity. We are happy with the way guys have turned things around and the kind of cricket that we have played in the second half. A lot of credit goes to the team management for getting us back in the right frame of mind. We haven’t finished in the position that we wanted to. But because the second half has been so good it doesn’t feel like a bad season”.
Meanwhile, it was a disappointing season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Virat Kohli-led team won only five matches out of the 14 matches to finish at the seventh position in the points table.
