IPL 2019: Chennai Super Kings Coach Stephen Fleming Reveals MS Dhoni’s Batting Position
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has revealed that his skipper MS Dhoni will pretty much bat at no four in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Meanwhile, Chennai will begin their title defence in the tournament opener on March 23 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Chepauk Stadium.
The former Indian National Cricket team skipper generally bats at no five for the national side. MS Dhoni will bat in his original position in the ICC World Cup which begins in two months. However, if Dhoni performs in the IPL batting at four, it will give an extra option to Virat Kohli & Co, who are still struggling with their middle-order. As per reports, all-rounder Vijay Shankar is likely to bat at no four slot in the pinnacle event.
Stephen Fleming ahead of the first game said that Dhoni will pretty much bat at four; however, they can use him as a floater too. But the presence of all-rounder Kedar Jadhav makes things easy for the management to fix the batting order. MS Dhoni has been in good form this year after having a miserable time in 2018. The veteran wicket-keeper batsman will be keen to continue his form and bring more glory to CSK.
“Dhoni batted pretty much (at) No. 4 last year but we do use him in a little bit of a flexible role, so that won’t change,” Fleming said at the media conference organised by CSK.
“His (Dhoni’s) form has been outstanding in the past 10 months. We have a new player as well (Kedar Jadhav) which is great. So, we’re really happy with the (batting) order and the thoughts around that,” Fleming told reporters.
We have most bases covered
Chennai Super Kings have one of the most balance outfits among all the franchises. They have quality players in all the departments and have good bench strength. As a result, if a player leaves or suffers an injury someone or the other is ready to slot in his place. Stephen Fleming feels they have everything in place and now only the players need to perform.
“We’ve got most of the bases covered and it’s just about getting the guys to perform and sitting on our gameplan, especially at home but when we play away as well,” Stephen Fleming concluded.
