Chennai Super Kings has been brilliant in all sections of the game but unfortunately, they are failing to put a show in the fielding. Gone are those days when Chennai Super Kings were the best fielding unit in the business. They got the likes of Brendon McCullum, Michael Hussey, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni himself.
However, of late, they have been pretty poor on the field. They are dropping catches on a regular basis and the ground fielding is solely based on few players. Meanwhile, the head coach Stephen Fleming believes that the team can never be the great fielding side.
But, we are okay with the side – Stephen Fleming
Speaking of the same, Stephen Fleming quoted that Chennai Super Kings has got aged players in the side, which would be tough for them to be athletic on the field. However, he added that they are fine with it.
“We are never going to be great (as a fielding group). We know that we can see that. It is one of the downsides of maybe having athletes who are a bit older. But we are okay with that,” ESPN Cricinfo quoted Fleming, as saying.
He also went on to add saying that they have worked on the fielding section. Meanwhile, he blames the pressure factor, which made the difference. However, he is hopeful of addressing it.
“Usually our catching has been very good that we’ve worked on. I thought we were a little bit placid with the movement around the field. We have to be at our best. We’ll address that. It is often a barometer to pressure,” he said.
Well, recently, Mahendra Singh Dhoni also quoted that they can’t be the great fielding side but they can still be the good fielding side. Unfortunately, youngsters like Shardul Thakur also being one of the slowest fielders.
