Mostly, it is an end of the tournament for Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League 2019. Though they were mathematically in the tournament, technically, they were out as the Net Run Rate is pretty low compared to the other teams. Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin speaks on the tough loss at Mohali, where Shubman Gill played a stunning knock.
Earlier in the match, it was Sam Curran and Nicholas Pooran, who helped the team to post a massive tally on the board. The England all-rounder has been sensational with his striking in the death overs, which ensures Kings XI Punjab to reach 183 runs on the board.
However, the youngster Shubman Gill showed his calibre in the middle for Kolkata Knight Riders. He knocked out KXIP bowlers to all corners of the park to smash a match-winning knock for the team. Gill was helped by the knocks of Uthappa, Russell and Dinesh Karthik during the crunch times.
They batted really well – Ravichandran Ashwin
Speaking of the loss, the skipper of Kings XI Punjab quoted that the target on the board was a par total. He feels that the opposition has batted well and never gave them the chance to make a comeback into the game.
He lauded the fantastic knocks from Chris Lynn and Shubman Gill, who took away the game initially. Ashwin also rued those edges, which didn’t help their case whatsoever.
”It’s been a par total. We have defended 175-180 before but we knew very well that there’s gonna be dew in the second half and I thought they batted really well. Starting with Lynny and then Gill played superbly. We bowled well in the first three overs and then it just got a little away from us and obviously that edges didn’t help.”
Sam Curran and Nicholas Pooran are massive positives:
Further, he hailed Nicholas Pooran and Sam Curran, who has been brilliant with the bat for the team. He believes those two players are the massive positives for the team.
”Massive positives for us with respect to Pooran and Sam. Sam batted beautifully, we all know he is got the ability and he’s got the fight in him and he pulled off pretty well,” Ravichandran Ashwin said in the post-match presentation.
Well, it is an end of the tournament for Kings XI Punjab. They will play one final game against Chennai Super Kings on May 5th, which will be the dead rubber.
