IPL 2019: CSK vs SRH – Shane Watson Thanks MS Dhoni, Stephen Fleming for the Trust
After giving starts to his team, Shane Watson has failed to live up to the billings before turning the heat on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bowlers at Chennai Super Kings’ fortress; Chepauk Stadium on Tuesday night (April 23. In the CSK vs SRH game of the ongoing IPL 2019, the home team overhauled the target in 19.5 overs with six wickets in hand. Watson has thanked CSK coach Stephen Fleming and skipper MS Dhoni for reposing faith in him.
With this win, CSK are back on the top with 16 points in 11 matches. Thus, they’ve virtually made it to the playoffs.
In previous ten matches, Watson’s inning best was 44 which came against Delhi Capitals (DC) on March 26 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi. However, when many thought it’s his time to take a break, he rose to the occasion by slamming 53-ball 96.
Furthermore, the senior campaigner was a stroke shy away from his fifth IPL ton. He has smashed two hundreds in last season apart from one each in 2013 and 2015 respectively.
Earlier, CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to field first. The guests lost their first wicket in the very second over of their innings when in-form Bairstow nicked the ball which settles in Dhoni’s gloves. Bairstow returned to the pavilion on nought after facing two deliveries.
However, Warner continued his domination to register his fine half-century. He knitted 115-run partnership for the second wicket with Manish Pandey, who remained unbeaten on 83 off 49 balls. Warner returned to the hut when Dhoni affected a stumping on the bowling of Harbhajan Singh, who removed both the openers.
Besides, for the third-wicket, Pandey added 47 runs with Vijay Shankar to help his side to post 175 for three on board.
Shankar 26 (20) was caught by Ravindra Jadeja on the bowling of Deepak Chahar. Yusuf Pathan remained not out on 5 (4). Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo and Imran Tahir remained wicket-less.
In the response, CSK had a terrible start as they lost Faf du Plessis at the score of three in 2.3 overs when Deepak Hooda found him well short of his crease. However, Raina alongside Shane Watson added 77 runs for the second wicket – to put things right on track for the hosts. Raina scored quickfire 24-ball 38 before Rashid Khan accounted for his wicket.
Ambati Rayudu scored 25-ball 21 before Kedar Jadhav 11 (10) hit a winning run for his team, on the penultimate delivery of their innings.
Here’s what Watson said during a post-match presentation to Harsha Bhogle, “I was due for runs, that’s for sure. I can’t thank Stephen Fleming and MS Dhoni enough for their belief in me. Most of the teams I’ve played in. I would have been dropped by now but they showed the trust in me. Of course, I was doing alright in the PSL and in the BBL too, struck the ball well. Needed some things to go my way, like it did today when Bhuvi was all over me. He is an incredibly skillful bowler as he swings it both ways.”
