IPL 2019: Erapalli Prasanna Slams Ravichandran Ashwin, Calls Him a Liar
The fourth game of the 12the edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) witnessed a wanted event during Rajasthan’s chase. In pursuit of 185 set by Punjab, the home side got off to a flier. However, against the run of play Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin mankaded opponent batsman Jos Buttler to change the course of the game. However, it didn’t go well with the cricketing world as Ashwin attracted heavy criticism for his unsporting gesture. Recently, former India cricketer Erapalli Prasanna slammed the veteran off-spinner for his action saying that Ashwin is not telling the truth.
Prasanna slams Ashwin on the mankad incident
Meanwhile, Rajasthan were looking good with Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson at the crease. They were at 108 for one when Ravichandran Ashwin ran Buttler out. The Kings XI Punjab skipper stopped after entering his delivery stride seeing Buttler slip out of his crease, turned around and broke the stumps at the non-strikers’ end. The on-field umpires sent it up to the third umpire, who didn’t need much time to declare the Royals wicket-keeper out. Buttler was livid with Ashwin and hurled mouthful while returning to the dugout.
Speaking on the same Erapalli Prasanna said that Ravichandran Ashwin is trying to cover up his deeds. The former Test spinner clearly pointed out that Ashwin is lying and should have given a warning. Also, Prasanna said even a schoolboy knows he has to warn the non-striker before doing such a thing.
“He is feeling guilty and he is trying to cover up. I don’t think he is clear to himself. He is bluffing. He is not telling the truth,” Prasanna told IANS.
“I (Ashwin) did it in the heat of the moment, all these things does not apply. Even a school cricketer knows, a batsman has to be cautioned. It has to be fair play. Most important point is, such an action is taken after cautioning the non-striker, telling him that he is leaving the crease much before the ball is delivered,” he added.
Going by Ravichandran Ashwin’s statements after the match that he did it impulsively, Erapalli Prasanna pointed out that if that is the case then he is not playing the game fair and square. BCCI also stated their position saying that the captain should have maintained the decorum and that even the match officials failed in their duty.
