IPL 2019: Final to be Held Between May 12th to May 15th
On Tuesday, the BCCI released a statement revealing the starting date and venue for the IPL 2019. Though the schedule for the finale was missing, the board gave us tentative dates for it. The reports, on Wednesday, revealed the finals of the twelfth edition of the IPL would take place between May 12th to May 15th. However, a final call on the same is yet to come out.
IPL 2019 to begin on March 23 in India
Despite the speculations of the IPL 2019 getting to shift outside the country due to General Elections, the CoA informed India would host the mega event, beginning March 23rd. However, they further revealed the decision had been taken only after speaking to the state administrators.
“Based on the preliminary discussions with the appropriate central and state agencies/authorities. It was decided that the 12th edition of the world’s most popular and competitive T20 tournament will be scheduled to be played in India,” the BCCI said in a release.
Going by the reports, BCCI is waiting for the final dates of the Lok Sabha elections to get announced, before their list the schedule for IPL 2019. Also, in February, the final date is expected to be out.
Meanwhile, the franchisees, broadcaster and the other stakeholders will take a sigh of relief, as the league matches are held in the country. The overseas venue would have added to the operational expenses; and also, affected the on-ground sponsorship and gate collections as well.
Change in the format for the first time?
Over the years, we have seen the home-away format getting carried out in the IPL. However, a new caravan-format could come into place, only to avoid possible clashes in dates with the elections. Furthermore, this year, the IPL is getting started a bit too early, as the 2019 World Cup is scheduled to begin on May 30th.
