IPL 2019: Harbhajan Singh Backs World Cup-Bound Kuldeep Yadav
Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who represents Chennai Super Kings (CSK), believes wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, has a lot on an offer at the 2019 World Cup. He maintained the bleak show isn’t any worrying sign for India at the ODI showpiece. In the ongoing IPL 2019, Kuldeep looked off-colour on most of the occasions.
Kuldeep struggled to perform:
Recently, the promising spinner Kuldeep has lost the Midas touch while featuring for the two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Harbhajan conceded Kuldeep bowled in the second half of the IPL when things get a bit difficult for the bowlers. He thinks that the situation would be altogether different during the upcoming World Cup.
For CSK, Harbhajan has bagged nine wickets in five matches at an exceptional average of 13.44.
In addition, following a sudden loss of form, Kuldeep missed out the previous fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). While taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Moeen Ali took Kuldeep to cleaners which further left him teary-eyed.
“In IPL, Kuldeep is bowling the 14th or even the 16th over when batsmen are throwing their bats around. In the World Cup, Virat will probably finish their quota by latest 42nd or 43rd over. So the last seven overs, which will always be tricky, they are not expected to bowl,” Harbhajan told PTI.
The prominent off-spinner Harbhajan, who has played 236 ODI, have watched Kuldeep on close quarters. He added Indian batters who are good against spin, attacked Kuldeep.
“I have watched a bit of his bowling and I don’t think there is any technical problem. And please check who all are hitting Kuldeep? The Indian guys are primarily hitting him,” Harbhajan said.
Kuldeep will bowl in tandem with Yuzvendra Chahal:
However, he has a crucial role to play for India’s World Cup campaign.
The Virat Kohli-led side will kick-off their World Cup campaign on June 5.
In nine matches so far, Kuldeep managed to bag just four wickets.
“There is no doubt that Kuldeep is going through a rough patch in IPL. T20 is a format which can destroy the confidence of any bowler but let’s not compare formats. One-day (match) is a different ball game and you will see a very different Kuldeep,” Harbhajan added.
Kuldeep, who made his IPL debut in 2016, has eked out 39 wickets in 40 matches.
The Punjab-based bowler Harbhajan maintained it wouldn’t be easy to attack Kuldeep on a regular basis. He added the star prospect is capable of finishing his figures with three or two wickets at least in his quota of 10 overs.
“He may get hit but in the middle overs, the skipper will pack one side of the field, whether it’s inside 30-yard circle or outside. Even if he is hit for two fours, he can come back with figures of 3/50 or 2 for 45 on most days. And that’s decent figures,” Harbhajan concluded.
Meanwhile, the Chinaman is the part of India’s 2019 World Cup squad. The twelfth edition of the ICC’s mega event will commence from May 30 at Kennington Oval in London.
