IPL 2019: Hardik Pandya Still Recovering From Back Issue That Ruled Him Out Of Australia Series
Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is still recovering from the back issue that kept him out of the limited-overs series against Australia.
The 25-year-old was not in full flow during the Mumbai Indians’ pre-season camp that kicked off a couple of days back and only did some fielding drills, a report in MumbaiIndians.com suggests.
He was set to play his first home game of the season for India against Australia but a back issue saw him missing the Australia series.
Pandya had earlier been out due to another back issue that he had suffered during Aisa Cup 2018. That also kept him out of West Indies series and a part of Australia tour.
He made his comeback to the side from the third Test but later got suspended. He made his comeback to the side after BCCI lifted the ban provisionally.
Ahead of World Cup 2019, he looked set for a long run in international cricket but suffered an injury.
Pandya is an automatic selection in the World Cup squad and there is no such doubt regarding his place in the team.
Though in his absence, Vijay Shankar did well and has a strong chance of making it to the World Cup squad.
In fact, he can also be used as a middle-order batsman, if not as a pure all-rounder.
He has shown on occasions that he can bat according to the situation and can also hit huge sixes if it comes to that.
Meanwhile, other players of Mumbai Indians were also in attendance during the pre-season camp.
Yuvraj Singh, Krunal Pandya, Ishan Kishan were in action during the practice session.
The trio looks set to be part of the team right from the start of the season along with Hardik.
Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma will soon join the team’s camp soon.
He was a part of the series against Australia that concluded on Wednesday and will be taking a rest of few days before landing in the camp.
Along with him, Jasprit Bumrah is also expected to take some time off before kicking off preparations for the upcoming T20 league.
IPL 2019 kicks off on March 23 with Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challenger Bangalore in the first game of the season.
Mumbai Indians kick off their campaign against Delhi Capitals in a home game on March 24.
