IPL 2019: I Always Wanted to Play Infront of the Rajasthan Crowd Reveals Ravindra Jadeja
Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja became the 13th bowler in IPL history to take 100 wickets or more when he bagged the prized wicket of Steve Smith during the CSK vs RR match at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. He bowled brilliantly and his impressive spell was instrumental in restricting Rajasthan Royals to a score of 151 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Ravindra Jadeja returned with figures of 2/20 in his 4 overs spell which included the important wickets of Steve Smith and Rahul Tripathi. In a pitch which assisted the spinners to a certain extent, Jadeja relied on his pace variations and bowled in the perfect areas to bag the rewards. His job is to contain the batsmen in the middle overs and he did that perfectly.
Ravindra Jadeja started of his IPL career with the Rajasthan Royals back in the inaugural edition in 2008. The former skipper and head coach of Rajasthan Royals gave him a nickname ‘Rockstar’ after his impressive all-round performances during the 2008 edition of the tournament. During the mid-innings break, Jadeja stated he is enjoying every format of the game and it was a great moment for him to be back in Rajasthan and perform in front of the crowd from where he started his IPL career.
“I am very happy with all my numbers (100 IPL wickets). Happy with the way I am bowling. Overall I’m enjoying my game – whether I’m playing ODIs or Tests. It feels great. I started playing IPL from Rajasthan. Always wanted to play in front of this crowd. The crowd support was amazing when I was playing for Rajasthan. We are enjoying as a team,” Jadeja said during the mid-innings break.
Ravindra Jadeja further revealed that he was not only trying to restrict the batsmen but was going for the wicket. He further added that as the ball was spinning he relied on bowling in the right areas and the pitch did the rest for him. The left-arm spinner feels that he continues his momentum to the later stages of the tournament as well.
“Hopefully, the momentum continues. I was looking for wickets. I was not just trying to restrict them. I knew that the ball was spinning, I was bowling at the stumps and the wicket did the rest. We have different varieties in our team – off-spinner, a leg-spinner and myself left-arm. Everyone’s experienced enough to bowl in these situations.. We are doing well as a bowling unit,” Jadeja signed off.
After batting first, Rajasthan Royals put up a competitive score of 151 in their allotted 20 overs. It was a late cameo by Shreyas Gopal which too them past the 150 mark. Currently, Rajasthan Royals have started off quite brilliantly with the ball and has already bagged 3 wickets when the article was written. CSK was 22/3 in 5 overs when the article was written. Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav are currently there in the crease.
