Comparisons have always been one of the aspects of the game of cricket. Cricket fanatics always enjoy comparing newer to the older players. In the recent comparison, the Windies legendary batsman Brian Lara believes that there is a hint of Virender Sehwag in Prithvi Shaw’s style of play.

The youngster from Mumbai Prithvi Shaw has been a force to reckon with in the last couple of years. He escalated his progress pretty quickly to make his debut for the Indian National Cricket Team in the Test format of the game. Now, he is showing his class in the Indian Premier League 2019.

Prithvi Shaw maturity is Amazing – Brian Lara

Speaking of Prithvi Shaw, Brian Lara quoted that he finds a lot of similarities in Prithvi Shaw’s play to Virender Sehwag’s batting. Both of them have got the goods to give quick starts for the team with their fine stroke play. He also lauded Shaw’s maturity level in the game.

“I see more of Virender Sehwag in Prithvi Shaw’s style of batting and think his maturity is amazing,” Lara told Star Sports Select Dugout as he made his commentary debut in IPL 2019.

Further, he recalls the Test series between Indian National Cricket Team and Windies, where Prithvi Shaw made his debut and knocked a century. He believes Shaw is a wonderful player for India.

“I saw him play against the West Indies last October and he scored a lot of runs. It’s wonderful to see a young player on Indian soil doing so well. He travelled to Australia but unfortunately could not play, because of an injury.”

Speaking of Prithvi Shaw in the Indian Premier League, Lara believes that it is the time for Shaw to step up and take the role of a senior. Lara feels that the crowd is expecting big things from the youngster for Delhi Capitals.

“I think he has been in the IPL for a couple of years and is a senior player already. A lot is expected of him, he is in a big man’s game now and has got to do what is necessary,” the West Indian legend reckoned.

Well, as Brian Lara said, there are quite a few similarities between Prithvi Shaw and Virender Sehwag. Not only from IPL but also his debut in Test match also made a lot of analysts call him a junior Virender Sehwag. The four boundaries facing Tim Southee in the game against RCB would perfectly sum up the statement.
