IPL 2019: Imran Tahir on the Verge of Breaking a 9 Year Old Record in the Cash Rich League

Veteran leg spinner and one of the integral parts of the Chennai Super Kings outfit, Imran Tahir is all set to break a 9-year-old record in the history of the Indian Premier League. The40 year old is on the verge of becoming the spinner with most wickets in a season.

He has bagged a total of 21 wickets in the tournament so far which is the joint highest for a spinner in a single season of the tournament along with Pragyan Ojha, the left-arm spinner who achieved the feat playing for Deccan Chargers back in 2010.

Imran Tahir has bowled brilliantly all through the tournament and has been a major match winner for the defending champions. He has bowled in the right areas and has allowed the friendly Chennai track to do the bits.

As he is on the verge of creating something special, Imran Tahir will look to get the record straight when the yellow brigade comes out to lock horns against the Kings XI Punjab in the penultimate match of the group stage.

Chennai Super Kings are currently at the top of the points table with 9 victories from 13 matches. It has largely been possible due to the exceptional run of form with the bat from skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He has been a standout performer for CSK this season. When he has been absent owing to injuries, Chennai Super Kings have fallen apart which will definitely be an area of concern for CSK.

The defending champions need to win their final group game to ensure a top-two finish in the league stages. However, a defeat might push them to the 3rd spot only if Mumbai Indians manages to beat the Kolkata Knight Riders in their final group match of the tournament. With the last group game coming up, CSK should look to solve some of their issues coming into the business end of the tournament.
