IPL 2019: Jaydev Unadkat Creates Bidding War Before Being Signed By Rajasthan Royals
Jaydev Unadkat was the most expensive player at last year’s auction at INR 11.5 Crore. However, he had a disastrous outing for Rajasthan Royals. The left-arm pacer managed just 11 wickets in 15 games. Prior to that, Unadkat took an impressive 24 wickets from 12 games for Rising Pune Supergiants under the leadership of MS Dhoni. But a poor performance saw him being released by Rajasthan Royals. Consequently, he entered the auction for a base price of Rs. 1.5 crore. He had the highest base price of INR. 1.5 Crore among Indians. Unadkat shared the said base price with nine other foreign players – Alex Hales, Jonny Bairstow, Morne Morkel, Dale Steyn, Rilee Rossouw, Luke Wright, Alex Carey and Liam Dawson.
Since the last IPL, Unadkat has taken a total of 20 wickets in 11 limited-overs matches and 16 wickets in 10 innings of the long format. And while there were speculations over a bidding war for Unadkat, no one would have expected such a war. Delhi Capitals started the bidding before being joined by Rajasthan Royals. The Capitals were then replaced by Chennai Super Kings and then Kings XI Punjab. But Rajasthan Royals remained firm and eventually shelled out INR 8.40 crores to sign their former player.
