IPL 2019: Kolkata Knight Riders Doesn’t Have Any Problem with Sourav Ganguly’s Dual Role Clarifies KKR CEO Venky Mysore
Kolkata Knight CEO Venky Mysore has clarified that the KKR management has no issues with Sourav Ganguly’s dual role of Cricket Association of Bengal President and advisor of Delhi Capitals. Ganguly’s association with Delhi Capitals and also being the advisor of Delhi Capitals has drawn criticism and he was facing of conflict of interest charges.
Sourav Ganguly will be sitting in the Delhi Capitals dugout when Kolkata Knight Riders meet DC in the return leg in Eden Gardens tomorrow. The Delhi Capitals pace attack is spearheaded by the young sensation Kagiso Rabada who is currently the Purple cap holder with most wickets in the tournament. With DC having a great pace attack a few insiders in CAB feels that Sourav Ganguly is the President of CAB might have a say in the making of the pitch for the game no 26.
“He is a thorough professional. He knows how to do his duties well. He’s fully supportive of what we are doing. We have no issues at all,” Venky Mysore was quoted as saying by PTI.
Sourav Ganguly led Kolkata Knight Riders in the first three years of IPL before being replaced by Gautam Gambhir. He played for Pune Warriors India in one edition and also led the franchise.
Meanwhile the KKR CEO Venky Mysore also spoke highly on current KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik. He feels that Karthik should definitely make it to the 2019 World Cup squad which is slated to be announced on Monday.
“I can’t imagine a World Cup squad without him. The role he plays is such a difficult one and as a keeper as well. The attitude he brings in to the team is amazing,” Mysore said.
Dinesh Karthik has led KKR admirably after taking over the reign last year. He took them to the semifinals before eventually losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Dinesh Karthik was the top run-getter for KKR in the 2018 edition. However, he hasn’t been among the runs this season with only 91 runs from 5 outings. However, Venky Mysore feels that the focus for Karthik is only the franchise.
“For him, I know, the focus is KKR. We are taking one game at a time, win that game and get into the playoffs and be in contention. That’s his focus. I don’t think he will be thinking about the World Cup selection at the moment. I don’t think there’s any added pressure on him at all.
“He’s been playing cricket — for India — for a long time. He’s played under most difficult pressure situations and still comes winning. I am sure he will continue to contribute on that fashion. There is only 15 people who can go to the World Cup.”
Kolkata Knight Riders have won 4 out of their 6 games in the tournament so far. The man of the hour for them has undoubtedly been Andre Russell who has been in the form of his life in the tournament so far. His consistency with the bat has helped KKR snatch victory from the jaws of defeat on at least a couple of occasions.
