IPL 2019: Kolkata Knight Riders Gives a Break to Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa and 3 Others
Kolkata Knight Riders are going through a lean patch in Vivo IPL 12 so far after suffering 5 defeats on a trot which has made them slip to the bottom half of the points table. After 5 matches, KKR was even at the top of the points table. However, the scenario has become a lot different now. Hence the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa has been asked to take a break by the franchise to clear their heads ahead of the upcoming games.
Along with Karhik and Uthappa, inexperienced campaigners Nkhil Naik and fast bowlers Shrikant Munde and Prithvi Raj Yarra has also been asked to join the group. They are expected to regroup with the franchise in Kolkata ahead of their next IPL encounter against the Rajasthan Royals as per reports in the ESPN Cricinfo.
The team management decided to send the players on a 3-day break was taken especially after KKR suffered their 5th straight loss which pushed them to the 6th position in the points just ahead of the struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.
Meanwhile the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Robin Uthappa have decided to make full use of this spare time by training with KKR academy mentor Abhishek Nayar who apparently played a huge rule in getting Dinesh Karthik’s career back on track last year. Both Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Karthik has been going through a lean phase and has failed to make vital contributions for their franchise.
While Karthik has scored just 117 runs in 10 matches and his captaincy has also been questioned time and again. Some of his decisions has been baffling to say the least. He has time and again send Andre Russell at No 7 which has never given the big man from Windies the much needed overs to make a difference for his franchise.
Robin Uthappa has gone a notch higher and played one of the most selfish innings against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. I was literally short of words to describe the 20 balls 9 from Uthappa which proved to be the difference between the two teams in the end. It was one of the worst IPL innings of all time.
Meanwhile among the other cricketers who has been asked to take a break includes the likes of Nikhil Naik and Yarra Prithvi Raj who has appeared in a solitary match in the tournament so far.
