IPL 2019: KXIP’s David Miller Lauds Ravichandran Ashwin’s Captaincy Role
In the ongoing twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), prominent middle-order batsman David Miller has lavished praise on Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) skipper Ravichandran Ashwin. The veteran off-spinner has led Punjab with all his might in the IPL 2019. Miller revealed Ashwin has had set an example while being poignant in approach.
Owing to his experience, Ashwin has left an impact since donning the captaincy hat in 2018. So far in the season 12 of the IPL, Punjab has won five games and lost as many in 10 matches.
Ashwin’s International experience helping KXIP:
The South African southpaw reiterated that Ashwin’s wealth of experience had brought a lot to the table. Adding the star bowler has played a lot of cricket for the Indian National Cricket Team which helps him to understand the situation better.
“He (Ashwin) has been really good as a captain and he leads from the front and by example. He thinks about the game a lot. Ashwin has played a lot of games for India and has an abundance of experience with him,” Miller told ToI in an interview.
Recently, Ashwin has drawn flak for Mankading Jos Buttler on March 25 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. It subsequently saw him defending himself during a press conference.
The Chennai-based bowler has bagged 11 scalps in 10 matches.
Miller, who looked bleak with a bat, has accumulated 178 runs in eight matches. He would be keen to shrug off his poor run in the impending fixtures.
While talking about their chances of winning the title, Miller kept things simple while remarking they’re targeting a game after another. He stated they’re eyeing for play-off before chalking out other plans.
“It will be really special. But we are focusing on one game at a time. Our main target is to make it to the play-offs. Once we reach the play-offs, we will try to reshuffle things and plan accordingly,” Miller added.
Gayle-Rahul continues their domination:
Well, Chris Gayle and KL Rahul have been the fulcrum of Punjab’s batting in this season. Gayle who sits on the top with 421 runs for KXIP, Rahul has gathered 399 runs which is a good sign for the franchise
Furthermore, Miller has praised the efforts of their opening pair for maintaining the solid run. He added if the duo would face maximum of eight overs it eventually eases things out for rest of the batters.
“Both have done immensely well for the team. When you have a good start, the rest of the job becomes easy. That’s what Chris and KL have done for us so far. They are known to lay solid foundations. If they stick (around) for 7 to 8 overs, things become easy for the team,” Miller said.
Meanwhile, KXIP will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 24 (Wednesday) at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
