Sri Lanka speedster and an integral part of the Mumbai Indians squad in IPL, Lasith Malinga is in the twilight of his career and in the last phase of his career he is ensuring that he can finish his illustrious career on a high. He was in a bit of a dilemma to whether to play the entire IPL season as it was clashing with the domestic ODI tournament in Sri Lanka. He was supposed to feature in the tournament to be considered for the World Cup selection.
However, the Sri Lankan board allowed the fast bowler to play the entire duration of the tournament as they wanted Malinga to test himself in a competition which is tougher and competitive. The slinga has played three matches for Mumbai Indians so far in the tournament. He put up a strong performance finishing with 3/34 in Mumbai on Wednesday.

However less than 12 hours after helping Mumbai Indians win their 2nd match, Malinga has already flown to Sri Lanka and is leading Galle in the Super Four Provincial Limited Overs Tournament. The fast bowler decided to play in the tournament as he felt it will be important while leading Sri Lanka in the World Cup.
The match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai finished at 11: 45 pm on Wednesday night. He then flew directly to Kandy in the next available flight to play the domestic tournament in Sri Lanka. Lasith Malinga led Galle in a match which started at 9: 45 am. It was lucky for Malinga that he didn’t have to bowl in the first half as his team chose to bat first.
Meanwhile, Dimuth Karunaratne landed himself into big trouble after he found himself involved in a drink and drive case. This has opened the floodgate for Lasith Malinga to lead Sri Lanka in the quadrennial event.
