Kolkata Knight Riders strolled to a convincing 8 wickets victory against the Rajasthan after registering a 9 wickets victory. It was a thoroughly professional performance by the two-time champions as they returned with a comprehensive victory. The bowlers restricted Rajasthan to a below-par score of 139 runs and from there on it was an unbelievable performance by the KKR batters which saw them winning the match with 6 overs to spare.

After winning the toss it was KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik who won the toss and asked the hosts to bat. Rajasthan Royals lost the wicket of skipper Ajinkya Rahane pretty early which put them in the backfoot from the outset.  Steve Smith played a good knock and completed a useful half-century but the Rajasthan batters didn’t go for the shot which never really allowed them to push for a big score.

The pitch was pretty slow and the KKR bowlers were quite brilliant as they contained the Rajasthan Royals batters o just 139/3 in their allotted 20 overs. Debutant Harry Gurney was the pick of the KKR bowlers finishing with a couple of wickets of 25 runs.

With the bat in hand, Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine provided a terrific opening partnership which set KKR on their way. Narine started belting the Rajasthan Royals bowlers right from the outset. The southpaw smashed 47 of 25 deliveries which were studded with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Chris Lynn also came back to form with a well-crafted half-century. He scored 50 of 32 deliveries which were studded with 6 fours and 3 sixes.

Robin Uthappa also struck an unbeaten 26  of 16 deliveries which eventually led KKR to a quite convincing victory in the end.

Here is what Man of the Match Harry Gurney said at the post-match presentation

It was a pitch that suited my cutter options, so a nice one to make my debut on. I work hard on my variations and on my yorker and it is nice to have them in tough situations, although I didn’t use it much tonight.

I am working on a knuckle ball but I don’t think it’ll be ready during the IPL, maybe somewhere in the English summer.
