Mayank Agarwal stitched a match-winning stand with KL Rahul as Kings XI Punjab registered their fourth win of IPL 2019 beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. As a result, they jumped to eight points to sit in the third spot in the points table after Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.
Batting first, David Warner scored an unbeaten 70 to help Sunrisers Hyderabad post 150 runs on the board. The Australian cricketer stitched crucial partnerships before unleashing carnage in the last few overs to finish on a high. Punjab bowlers did an outstanding job to keep the opponent batters in check. In pursuit, the home side lost Chris Gayle early on but KL Rahul combined with Mayank Agarwal to bail their side out with a 114 run stand.
Both score their individual half-centuries before Sandeep Sharma struck to bring Hyderabad back in the game. Sharma dismissed Agarwal and David Miller to make it tough for the batsmen. Speaking about giving away wicket at that moment, Mayank Agarwal someone had to take the risk. He also added that although it was not an easy win but is happy to get two crucial points.
“It was 18 balls 19 and someone had to take a chance. We didn’t get it off that easily but happy to get two points. We were obviously backing ourselves with 11 needed off 6 balls despite an experienced bowler like Nabi bowling the final over,” Agarwal said at the end of the game.
Enjoyed batting with Rahul
Hailing from Karnataka, Mayank Agarwal shares a great bond with KL Rahul on and off the field. Often Agarwal has credited Rahul for his consistency with the bat. He admitted that they enjoyed batting with each other. Moreover, he was happy that Rahul finished off the game in style.
We enjoyed batting with each other (batting with Rahul). When I got into bat, the talk was to get a 50-60 runs partnership. He was there till the end to see off the chase,” he concluded.
