IPL 2019, Match 24: Kings XI Punjab vs Mumbai Indians- Twitter Reacts as KL Rahul’s Century Powers KXIP to 197

Kings XI opening batsman KL Rahul smashed a sensational century as Kings XI Punjab finished on a strong note in the final few overs against the Mumbai Indians. It was a special knock from Rahul who paced his knock to perfection. After a sluggish few overs, it was Rahul who ensured Punjab reached a score of 197 in their allotted 20 overs. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 100 of 64 deliveries.

Kings XI Punjab couldn’t quite capitalize on their fantastic start against the Mumbai Indians in the 24th match of Vivo IPL 12 and could only manage in their allotted 20 overs. When Chris Gayle was taking the Mumbai Indians attack to the cleaners, a score of 220 even looked possible. However, the Mumbai Indians bowlers made a great comeback in the final few overs to restrict Punjab. They pulled it back well courtesy some fantastic death overs bowling.

After winning the toss, it was Mumbai Indians stand-in skipper Kieron Pollard who won the toss and opted to field. Rohit Sharma, their regular skipper had to miss out owing to a right leg back spasm. He recovered quite significantly in the last 24 hours but it was just a precautionary measure taken by the Mumbai Indians team management.

Kings XI Punjab lost their way a bit after the loss of Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle and KL Rahul came out to begin proceedings. Gayle looked in terrific form from the outset and started smashing the Mumbai bowlers from the very first over. The southpaw looked in ominous touch and raced to a quickfire half-century. The southpaw struck 63 of 36 deliveries which were decorated with 3 fours and 6 sixes. It was power hitting at its very best.

Eventually, it was Jason Behrendorff who bagged the wicket of Chris Gayle which eventually proved to be the game-changer in the 1st innings. His partner KL Rahul tried to remain there till the end and in the process looked a bit sedate. Punjab lost a few quick wickets as Hardik Pandya made a good comeback after conceding 27 runs in 2 overs.

However, it was a KL Rahul special in the last three overs as he raced off to a sensational century and took Punjab’s score to a commendable 197 in their allotted 20 overs. He went berserk in the last few overs which helped him reach his maiden IPL century, Rahul smashed his mate Hardik Pandya all around the park and it was some great hitting in display.
