IPL 2019, Match 29: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Chennai Super Kings- Credit Goes to My Wife and Kid For Their Support Says Man of the Match Imran Tahir
Chennai Super Kings continued their winning run in Vivo IPL 12 after registering a nail-biting victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 29th match of the tournament. They had to fight hard for the victory as KKR bowlers bowled in the right areas. However, it was Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina who stitched a brilliant partnership and ensured Chennai Super Kings chased the target of 162 in the final over.
It was Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni who won the toss and asked the hosts to bat. The opening duo of Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine was back. Lynn who was down with a flu looked in great touch from the outset and took on the CSK bowlers with disdain. He found the boundaries on a consistent basis. There was a time when he smashed Ravindra Jadeja for 3 sixes in a row.
The hosts looked well set for a big score but the CSK bowlers made a grand comeback towards the late few overs to push Kolkata to the backfoot. A score of 161 was never going to be enough for Kolkata. Chasing a below-par target, Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis came out in the middle to begin proceedings.
Chennai Super King was bolstered by a magnificent spell from Imran Tahir
Imran Tahir, the wrist spinner was at his exceptional best as he returned with exceptional figures of 4/27 in his allotted 4 overs. His wickets tally included the most prized scalp of Andre Russell who have literally tormented the oppsoition bowlers with his whirlwind strokeplay.
After a good start, it was Harry Gurney who provided KKR with their maiden breakthrough in the form of Watson’s wicket. Suresh Raina survived a scare after he was adjudged out by the on-field umpire. However, a successful review helped him revive his innings. He looked in good touch and played some brilliant shots en route to a well-deserved half-century.
He was supported well by Kedar Jadhav who got going with some exceptional shots. However, he was dismissed in a crucial juncture. MS Dhoni after scoring 19 was dismissed b Sunil Narine which tilted the scales in KKR’s favour. Eventually, it was Ravindra Jadeja’s heroic knock of 31 which took Chennai over the line. It was their 7th victory in 8 matches.
Now here is what Man of the Match Imran said at the post-match presentation
We won the match and that’s the most pleasing thing for me. My plan was simple, I was trying to bowl wicket-to-wicket and was forcing them (batsmen) to make the mistake. I was happy with the way it came out, got a few wickets. It’s all hard work. My wife and kid always support me a lot. I have been working hard and playing with MSD, I have been learning a lot and I am really happy to be a part of CSK.
