IPL 2019: Match 3 – MI vs DC – Winning the First Game Against Mumbai Indians is a Big Boost for us – Ishant Sharma
Delhi Capitals (DC) outplayed three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians (MI)to begin their campaign on a high. Meanwhile, this is the first time the Capitals have registered a win in the opening game of the season since 2013. Following their victory, Ishant Sharma noted that this win against Mumbai will be a massive booster for them.
Delhi starts with a comprehensive win
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant launched an onslaught as Delhi Capitals posted 213 runs on the board. After a poor start early on, Shikhar Dhawan and Colin Ingram stitched an 82-run partnership for the third wicket to set the tone for the batters to come in. But Mumbai bounced back with two consecutive wickets to peg back into the game. But once Pant came in the middle, he was all over the Mumbai Indians bowling.
The young wicket-keeper spared none and not even Jasprit Bumrah. He smacked seven towering sixes and fours each to hammer 78 runs of just 27 balls to post first 200-run total in this season of IPL.
Meanwhile, it was a daunting task for the Mumbai side as they hadn’t chase a 200plus target in the history of IPL. The start was also not good for the home side as they lost skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav early on. Despite that, Yuvraj Singh – who is playing his first game for the Mumbai Indians tried to take his side to the winning rope but lost wickets at the other end. Krunal Pandya tried to bring down the asking rate playing some shot but Delhi chipped in with every time Mumbai looked dangerous. Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma picked two wickets each while others returned with a solitary wicket each.
Here is what Ishant Sharma said:
“Actually, I was quite nervous. When you see the ball flying everywhere when Pant was batting, it shows how good a batting track it was. I was backing myself, I had a good County season, a good Test season as well and was among the wickets. I was only trying to hold my nerve and control the process because when you try and control the results, you lose track of the processes,” Ishant said.
“Everyone is gelling together well and it doesn’t matter what the result is, which is how the team environment should be. Winning the first game against Mumbai Indians is a big boost for us. We have a new side, a good support staff and it was important to start off well,” he added.
