IPL 2019, Match 43: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals- Match Review
Rajasthan Royals held themselves back from the threshold of elimination and finally registered a 3 wickets victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 43rd match of Vivo IPL 12. It was a hard-fought victory from Rajasthan after a great knock of 97 from KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik had got the hosts to a competitive score of 175 runs.
The Turning Point of the Match
Undoubtedly the knock from 17-year-old Riyan Parag proved to be the turning point of the match. Rajasthan Royals after getting off to a great start lost their way in the middle overs as Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine spun a web around the RR batters.
It was Riyan Parag who got RR back into the game with some exceptional strokeplay. He smashed a quickfire 47 of 31 deliveries which got Rajasthan Royals back on track. His innings was studded with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Chasing a more than competitive target on a good friendly wicket, Rajasthan Royals got off to the perfect start. Ajinkya Rahane after getting sacked as the skipper has looked a different player and it is great signs for Rajasthan. The opening batsman struck a quickfire 34 of 21 deliveries which included 5 fours and a six.
His partner Sanju Samson also got off to a good start. After a 53 runs stand, it was Sunil Narine who gave KKR their first wicket when he trapped Rahane plumb in front. RR also lost the wickets of Samson and Steve Smith pretty cheaply as well. The poor form of Ben Stokes in the tournament continued as he was dismissed on 11 by Piyush Chawla.
The leggie bowled brilliantly to take KKR towards the finishing line. However, it was a great knock from 17-year-old Riyan Parag who turned the match on its head. He smashed 47 of 31 balls to get RR right back into the game. He was unfortunately dismissed in the form of a hit wicket. After his dismissal, it was Jofra Archer who sealed the deal for RR with an unbeaten 27 of just 12 deliveries which were studded with a couple of fours and sixes each.

It was Steve Smith who won the toss and put the hosts in. It was a pretty ordinary start from the hosts as they lost the wicket of Chris Lynn in the very first over of Varun Aaron. The fast bowler who had only bowled a solitary over in the tournament up till now looked in terrific rhythm and breached the defence of Lynn with great delivery.
He kept on persisting with the same line and length and swung the ball prodigiously. He got his 2nd wicket when Shubhman Gill had no idea to a delivery which came back sharply. KKR stuttered in the middle overs quite a bit but it was skipper Dinesh Karthik who kept them in the game with some wonderful strokeplay.
Andre Russell had a rare off day as he was struggling with his shoulder injury. Despite wickets at the other end, Karthik played a sensational knock and kept clearing the ropes on a consistent basis. Eventually, he was left stranded on 97 when their allotted 20 overs came to an end. His knock of 97 included 7 fours and 9 hits over the fence.
