Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) exploited a good opening start to post a massive total f 232 runs against Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The onus will now be on the bowlers to defend the target and their six-match losing streak.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a flying start after Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. Shubman Gill, who opened the innings alongside Chris Lynn went after the bowlers right from the word go. He took Barinder Sran for two fours and a six to set off in the fifth gear. However, Krunal Pandya kept things quite from the other end as Kolkata Knight Riders managed to post 50 runs at the end of the powerplays. However, they picked right after the powerplay to score another 46 runs from the next 4.3 overs before Mumbai got their first breakthrough. Young Rahul Chahar got the better of Lynn after a well-made half-century off just 27 balls to have Kolkata Knight Riders at 96 for one.

Russell leads the charge for Kolkata again
There has been a lot of debates with Andre Russell‘s batting position over the last week. And the Kolkata management has sent him at one down to exploit the brilliant start. However, Russell was cautious at the beginning while Shubman Gill continued to impress the Eden Gardens crowd. He played some glorious looking shots to prove that he is the future of Indian cricket. However, Evin Lewis grabbed his second catch to dismiss Gill for 76 runs off just 45 balls.
The departure of Gill saw Russell returning to his usual self taking on the fifth gear. He took 20 runs off Hardik Pandya in the 18th over to set off in the final three overs. In the process, he brought his eight IPL fifty to take Kolkata Knight Riders over the 200-run mark. In the 20th over, Russell took Lasith Malinga for two fours and two sixes to help Kolkata post 232 runs while he remained unbeaten on 80 runs.

200 is only par today. #KKR should get there but how many more than that will they need with only five bowling options?

For reasons of personal safety, shouldn’t the bowler & the fielders be advised to wear helmets when #AndreRussell is batting?
