IPL 2019: Match 6, KKR vs KXIP – It Is A Good Wicket And We Need To Bowl Well To Defend The Target – Sunil Narine
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) once again produced a magical batting effort to post 218 runs on the board against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the Eden Gardens. Despite having a massive target, Sunil Narine said they need to bowl well to defend the target.
Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) skipper Ravichandran Ashwin won the toss and elected to bat first. They made four changes to their winning combination while Kolkata Knight Riders went in with the same squad. Sunil Narine provided the home side with a perfect kickstart smashing 25 runs in the second over off debutant Varun Chakravarthy. Mohammed Shami who bowled an ideal first over returned to dismiss Chris Lynn while another debutant Hardus Viljoen dismissed Narine to bring Punjab back into the game.
But since then it was all Kolkata Knight Riders as they made the most of the flat track on offer. Robin Uthappa and Nitish Rana smashed everything that came their way. They added 110 runs for the third wicket to set the platform for Andre Russell to capitalise on it. Rana continued on his good form scoring another half-century. Chakravarthy finally managed to get the wicket of Rana (63) which brought the big Windies all-rounder in the middle.
Russell shows his firepower at Eden
Rusell single-handedly changed the course of the game smashing five sixes and three fours during his 17-ball 48 runs knock. He hurled at everything that came his way, and most of them went over the ropes. However, he was lucky when Mohammed Shami cleaned his stumps, but the umpire adjudged it to be no ball because less than three fielders were inside the i30-yard circle. Andre Russell utilised it to launch a carnage as Kolkata Knight Riders posted 218 runs at the halfway stage.
Speaking at the halfway stage, Sunil Narine said that they have got a good total on the board. However, reckoned that it is a good wicket and they need to bowl well to defend the target.
Here is what Sunil Narine said,
We started off good and then Nitish played a good anchor role with Robbie and then Russ did come in and did his stuff. Nice to be at the top and nice to get a good start. Having said that, it’s a good wicket and even though we made 200 something I think we still have to bowl quality balls and pick up early wickets. Once he (Russell) is at the crease, you never know what could happen; you can get 20-30 in an over, it’s the key for us. In the first six, there isn’t much turn, probably after eight overs, there could be some spin. We will see how the wicket behaves and let’s hope we can defend this score.
