IPL 2019: Match 7, RCB vs MI – Twitter Reacts as Mumbai Indians Pacers Win It For Their Team
Mar 29, 2019 at 12:02 AM
Mumbai Indians (MI) fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga overtrumped the brilliance of AB de Villiers to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the match seven of the Indian Premier League at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Chasing a massive target of 188 runs, Virat Kohli and Parthiv got the Royal Challengers off to solid start. Although they lost Moeen Ali – promoted to open the innings early, Kohli looked in sublime touch hitting Jasprit Bumrah for a few boundaries. They soon raced towards the 50-run mark with Patel also not lagging too behind. Mumbai Indians made the first inroad in the seventh over when Rohit Sharma handed the ball to Mayank Markande. Coming into the playing XI, he made an immediate impact dismissing Parthiv Patel.
AB de Villiers joined Virat Kohli in the middle after Patel’s dismissal. The duo took a cautious approach as they posted 82 runs at the halfway stage of the chase. Since then, they looked to up the scoring rate putting the odd deliveries to the boundary. Just when thing looked to shift in favour of Bangalore, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Virat Kohli (46) to bring his side back. But the wicket didn’t deter de Villiers as he continued to play his shots.
With 41 needed from the last four, Bumrah struck once again to dismiss Shimron Hetmyer, who has completely looked out of socks in this tournament. However, AB de Villiers continued to play his shots but failed to take Royal Challengers Bangalore home. Meanwhile, the Challengers fell short by five runs in a cracker of a game to win their first game in IPL 2019. Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Maling bowled excellently at the death to seal the victory.
Vintage Yuvraj was on offer
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock got Mumbai Indians off to a tremendous start by scoring 52 runs in the powerplay. However, Royal Challengers Bangalore applied the brakes by introducing their best bowler – Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal provided the first breakthrough while Umesh Yadav removed the Mumbai skipper. Yuvraj Singh and Suryakumar Kumar then decided to up the ante, with the former hitting Chahal for three successive sixes.
But the leggie was unperturbed by that and came back strongly to finish with four wickets. The visitors slipped from 124 for 2 to 147 for 7 and RCB threatened to reduce them to a below-par score. However, Hardik bailed his team out of trouble as Mumbai ended up scoring. 187 runs. A late cameo from Hardik Pandya in the end – 32 off 14 with three towering sixes ensured Mumbai Indians finish on a high.
