Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) bowlers staged a wonderful comeback to restrict a world-class Mumbai Indians (MI) batting order for 176 runs at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab opted to bowl first after winning the toss and made only change bringing in Murugan Ashwin in place of young spinner Varun Chakravarthy. Skipper Ravichandran Ashwin started the proceedings with the ball in an attempt to exploit the weakness of Quinton de Kock. Controversy and Ashwin have been synonyms in this tournament, and it was no different. He started the innings with a seven-ball over, and the extra ball brought the first boundary of the match.

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma looked in fine touch. Mohammed Shami and Andrew Tye – two of the best Kings XI Punjab pacers – have been hit for a total five boundaries in their first overs each. Mumbai off to a flyer. 46 for no loss after five overs. However, against the run of play, Hardus Viljoen trapped Rohit Sharma LBW. The ball looked to go over the top, but Rohit decided not to opt for review after having a chat with his partner. The breakthrough opened ways for another one as Murugan Ashwin trapped Suryakumar Yadav to have Mumbai Indians for 62 for two.
Quinton de Kock who looked in good touch in the last two games got his first fifty of the season. Shami finally got him out LBW after he struck six fours and two sixes to score 60 runs off just 39 balls. Yuvraj Singh also got start scoring 18 runs but the Kings XI Punjab bowlers staged a wonderful comeback. However, another late cameo from Hardik Pandya helped the Mumbai Indians post 176 runs at the end of 20 overs.

Mankading against @rajasthanroyals, Field placement error against @KKRiders and now a seven-ball over against @mipaltan. Has been an eventful week for Ravichandran Ashwin. #IPL2019 #KXIPvMI
